Governments don't have rights. They have powers.
People have rights whether or not the government in question choose to recognise them.
The Republic is long dead, but most people are too ignorant to even know the difference between a republic and a democracy.
But it's o.k. I guess. We all need to vote republican in the upcoming election because pubbies are so much better for us than democrats. /sarcasm

Where is BUSH? Isn't the President supposed to defend the Constitution from these kinds of blatant attacks? Guess his silence on this action being taken by his administration is just another illustration of his being a CINO (Conservative in Name Only).
God save America from this tyranny!

"Over reaching by the IRS - what are their rights to do this?" No right at all. They have guns and they'll kill people who don't kowtow to them.

of course when it comes to the IRS some of us know they don't need a law. As long as they publish what they want us to do - "that's the law!"

What the heck does the IRS have to do with the second amendment? Are they afraid that disgruntled tax payers will rise up against them on April 15th.

Over reaching by the IRS - what are their rights to do this? They don't have the "right". They simply sieze the moment and wait for judicial review.
There has long been a disconnect between legislation, or more properly legislative intent, and the promulgation of actual regulations to enforce the legislative intent.
In this particular matter the appropriate "due process" relief is through the courts. As you know private individuals seldom pursue this avenue of relief because of the prohibitive cost of litigation in the federal courts.
Hence the old saw "Don't complain to me. Call your congressman." rather than "Don't complain to me. Call your attorney.".

"Over reaching by the IRS - what are their rights to do this?"Ummm, they control the military?
And here Farah said it was Clinton who used the IRS against his enemies too, as if he'd been the only one.
...guess that's one list that'll need updating.

Over reaching by the IRS - what are their rights to do this?As an Administrative Agency, they have the right to adopt reasonable regulations. But before we even consider whether or not this trial baloon is reasonable, we ought to be inquiring where in the chain of command, responsibility for this stops. Is this one more example of the Administration, which ultimately is responsible for the IRS, as for every other department in the Executive Branch, showing its indifference to important Conservative core values--or an Administrative Agency off on a tangent?
Just what is really going on here?
We are going to lose America very rapidly, if we do not find an effective way to rally our forces, with sufficient demonstration of our strength, to put the fear of God and principle back into the knaves in Washington.
