Not only smart but you notice which breed wins the agility trials in their size category - they even beat the water dogs in the water trials, leaping out into the water, retrieving item, returning it to "shore" etc.
They are just tremendous athletes - partly because they haven't been overbred or "improved" ... yet.

Have always had Golden Retrievers....just lost a 14 year old and our 15 year old is fading.....the wife and i want to consider another breed and have discussed border collies.
How rambunctious are they? We like to keep the dog (s) in the house, good idea with a B.C.?

I have cockers and they say: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.
We had one once who had that problem, every time someone came to visit we had to take her outside to greet them or tell them to ignore her inside until she had time to calm down. The two we have now are fine. Just soft warm throw rugs.
