THE LIBERALS ARE COMING: AL FRANKEN SIGNS WITH RADIO NETWORK
boortz.com ^ | 01/14/04 | NEAL BOORTZ

Posted on 01/14/2004 5:51:30 AM PST by Pokey78

They have no name for their network yet, and not even a launch date, but the liberal Democrat's wet dream has now come true: Al Franken will be getting a talk show. Progress Media has signed Franken to a one-year deal to host a show opposite Rush Limbaugh from Noon to 3pm eastern time. Talk about faith in your host....just a one-year deal. They have exactly one station signed up to air the show. Most successful shows have well over one hundred stations .... and Al has one. I guess you have to start somewhere.

Of course, the one thing missing in all of this is an audience. To survive, they will need listeners...something liberal talk show hosts have never been good at attracting. Why? Because their opinions are not popular, and talk radio listeners aren't interested. Imagine that! The free market rejecting the left-wing rantings of a liberal Democrat. In addition, the same network plans to air a show called "Champions of Justice," hosted by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. RFK Jr. is widely recognized as one of the most brain-dead members of Congress. This one ought to be quite entertaining. If he takes phone calls, he's screwed. Let's cover just one more time why liberals fail in talk radio. First, listening to talk radio is an individual exercise. Liberals are at war against the concept of individuality. Individuals call talk shows, not groups. Secondly; the liberal agenda cannot withstand exposure to logic or fact. About the first time Al Franken regales us with stories of Bush's warnings of an "imminent threat" from Saddam Hussein, some caller is going to ask Franken to back it up with one direct Bush quote. He can't. Credibility lost.

Then Franken will spout the line about the rich not paying their fair share of taxes. Someone will call with the statistics. Franken won't be able to defend his position. More credibility lost.

Do you want to have some fun? Call Franken's show on its first day and ask this simple question: "What is the maximum percentage you believe that any American should ever have to pay in federal income taxes." For some reason leftists are completely unable to answer this question.

It should still be interesting to see what happens. According to Franken, his plan is "alter the political landscape, drive this radical, right-wing president from office and stand as a beacon for ordinary Americans who work hard and play by the rules." That's a mighty tall order for one radio station, Al.

Yea, this one should be a lot of fun! I have infuriated more than one liberal with a well timed piece of logic or direct facts.

This venture is doomed to fail but lets enjoy the ride!

the best thing for Freepers to do is not listen, not call in, and just let the show exist all by itself.

This is just another development as we come to more clearly recognize that we are in Civil War II. These things will happen as the left dies off and becomes a mere echo.
Make no mistake, the left sells the ever enduring lure of something for nothing, so they will never completely disappear. Someday we will have to fight them off again but; for now let's enjoy what is unfolding.

Liberals on radio talk shows have no future.

The market for liberal listeners is monpolized by ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc on T.V.

Also, like children, liberals find it easier to relate to pictures than books, radio or intelligent Internet discussion sites.

One of our local morning liberal hosts was talking about "Bush's War" in Iraq.

When I pointed out the Iraq Liberation Act (Signed by Xlinton in '98), which made regime change in Iraq official US policy, she started shreiking at ME, calling me a "right wing radical", then hung up the phone!

No rebuttal, no debate, no back and forth. She started freaking out and slinging insults. It was such a surreal experience.

That is why Liberals will never succeed in talk radio...they can't stand to be challenged. That's why they stick to TV and print media.

Isn't ie America already the Left's radio network? Not to mention NPR or Pacifica (which has become a circular firing squad.)

Don't be so sure that the venture is doomed....every lib/communist/socialist leaning person in the World will make it a point to tune in...the same way Hillery's book sold so well....libs bought it...not because of her literary skills, philosophy, high ideals, culinary advice, health and exercise tips, advice for the lovelorn, or anything else for that matter.....but just to have a lib....any lib.... look good and be perceived as doing well and well thought of. Heck....I heard that the DNC bought a lot of the books to give away.....if anybody needed a little riser for their computer monitor.

This is fabulous news. Now instead of whining about how conservatives rule the airwaves, they can launch their own network and when it fails, that seals it. No more debate- the people simply don't want to listen to the dems and they will be relegated to NPR again.

Six months.

Tops.

I imagine they either get a bunch of "pretend" conservatives to call in, hired to look stupid and inept, or they don't take any conservative callers at all.

Another area for Franken to suck in.

I suspect the same thing. The libs will get their marching orders to tune in, or at least fudge the numbers somehow. Also, many conservatives from here and elsewhere will unfortunately tune in just to mock the show. Kind of like why we see umpteen liberal articles posted here every day.
The big media will hype this thing up tp make it sound successful, hoping to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

True. He had one memorable SNL skit (Stuart Smalley), which was beaten to death. He tried to make that a feature-length movie and it flopped. Tried a sitcom a few years back and that tanked too. Decided his only stock in trade left was to become an official liberal gadfly "spokesman". That has worked only because the Deanie baby crowd laps that stuff up.

The Democratic Party bought huge numbers of Hildabeast's book. It gives them away at various functions, and so forth. It will also subsidize the lib radio network until the election.

Look for that station to go the way of Rosie O' Donnell.

Radio consists of two partners: Listeners and sponsors. The conduit between these two is the program content. If that conduit stops flowing one way or the other, it is doomed.

Unless Al and the rest of these liberal talents plan to fund this "experiment" through donations, the capitalist spirit that is radio will snuff it all out before American Liberal Radio can celebrate it's first anniversary.

LOL Franken's going to be torn to pieces by his own callers.

People who listen to talk radio (myself included, so I'm a little biased) tend towards using their intellect to tackle difficult issues.

Liberal cry-babies, on the other hand, would rather have their opinions spoon-fed to them by RatherJenningBrokaw in the evening, while listening to limp-noodle pseudo-rock like Pearl Jam all day long.

If Fanken's show gets a spot in the Indinanapolis market, I'll give it a listen. Not out of any love for Franken, though. More out of a desire to hear him get verbally eviscerated by the light of truth and reason.
