Here in Florida, Albertson's oftem has salmon or , even better, steelhead, for $3.99 per pound. And that is fillets, too.

But watch out for their $1.99 salmon as those I got were chum salmon. And in Alaska those are called dog salmon because that is sled dog food.

Admittedly, it is still OK, but not as good as the steelhead.

It's easy to smoke fish and other meats -- it just takes a little time. If you like smoked salmon you save a lot of money doing it yourself. I buy my salmon from COSTCO when I don't have any fresh-caught. Google "Luhr Jensen" and check out the Little Chief Smoker. I've used mine for over 20 years.

We get steelhead here on the west coast also, and it is far superior to salmon.

Steelead is also the best fresh water game fish on the coast, when spawing. Difficult to hook but well worth the effort.
