This adds a new dimension to catch and release.
With toothy critters like Pike and some salt water fish, I use a 14 inch Boga Grip which fastens two metal prongs on the fishs lower jaw. That temporarily stuns them. Then you can use your pliers to ease the hook out. Then you put the fish back into the water facing the current. When it starts to wag its tail, you release the Boga Grip. The fish swims away, a little bit wiser.
This easier on the fish, me and saves me the money that the bubbly would cost.

I am aghast that this barbaric plongeur (americain, sans doute) would dare to let the pike drink directly from le bouteille. Jacques Cousteau always had the correct flutes aboard the Calypso.
However, I suppose the fellow is allowed to marinate from the inside out, if he so desires.
