The sun's at his back, and appears to be strong. Do you think the shadow would be that well defined?

You're probably right, just looks strange, though so does the rest of him.

Are you talking about that courageous swimmer -- who, after risking his life many times over in a failed attempt to save Mary Jo from a terrible death -- has worked tirelessly these many years for the salvation of our Republic ??

My goodness. What would we have done without him ??

Sorry, this has been done too. 3 seconds after seeing your reply, a google search revealed this...

December 11, 2003 Skeletor Bush? Post Comment It's not a surprise that while we used to be the respected moral leader of the world, we're not. We're now the most feared country on the face of the earth, but no longer the most respected." - US presidential candidate Howard Dean It reminds me of an episode of Masters of the Universe in which Skeletor told some guy that Two-Bad obey him not because they like him, but because they fear him. I kinda like the thought of comparing George W. Bush to Skeletor. Posted by dracoling at December 11, 2003 03:40 PM

No one ever censored Democrats, they are the ones decrying the uproar against this illiterate and racist comparison of Bush/conservatives.

And of course, Hillary Clinton's racism and prejudice abounds, making fun of Indians:

SEN. CLINTON REGRETS GANDHI 'RAN A GAS STATION DOWN IN ST. LOUIS' JOKE...

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040106_1188.html

but who is going to contest her on that... and her cheap alibi as a "joke".

Apparently Ghandi's ethnicity is an alibi for her to castigate Indians and people making a vow of poverty for the truth.

The comments by the director disappoint me, as I'm a big fan of the series. Rowling does not comment politically, although her books indicate she understands humanity very well. The characters in the books are three dimensional, and looking for parallels to real people from them is kind of like trying to decide what a cloud formation looks like. Whatever parallels the reader sees says more about the reader than the book.

The character of Cornelius Fudge reminds me of Bill Clinton. He ignores the growing power of Lord Voldemort because he doesn't want to have to take action against him, and develops great personal animosity for those who try to tell him he must acknowledge the growing threat. Other conservative viewpoints are that the Ministry of Magic tries to regulate almost everything, is extremely ineffective at it, and is either incompetent or corrupt at almost every level.

There is a consistent theme throughout the plotline that is advanced for a series supposedly aimed at children. There is good and evil, but many of the supposedly good people refuse to take a stand against evil because it is politically difficult. The character of Lucius Malfoy, for example, wields great influence, even though he was known to be a supporter of Voldemort. People accomodate him because the fear him. Most of them know he continues to secretly support Voldemort. He's wealthy and makes contributions to various politicians, and the politicians look the other way.

Her treatment of the races of people and creatures has also invited much political speculation. The house elves are slaves. They are actually more powerful than wizards magically, but have been so beaten down by their enslavements that they punish themselves for even thinking bad things about their owners. The goblins are the bankers, and are scrupliously honest, but very abrasive and dangerous. Giants are not very intelligent, and have almost become extinct because they keep killing each other. Centaurs are proud, and consider even being civil to be an indication of subservience. They study the stars and have little interest of things here on earth, and will kill people who try to convince them to do something.

I've read several articles where people try claim that actual human races are the basis for the races of magical creatures, but I think they defy easy categorization.

Well, I've rambled too long, but the director is an idiot who was fortunate enough to fall into a royal flush. Rowling is a gifted author who has created a memorable series.
