I question the roll cold weather plays in the overall development of man and culture.

Much of Alaska was ice free during the Ice Age.

I question the roll cold weather plays in the overall development of man and culture.

If the weather was cold, he had to work harder to stay alive. The development of technology was imperative -- fire, sharp tools, skinning and curing techniques -- and the smartest tribe won.

Here's an interesting thread for you, civ.

In Austin, it was 80 degrees this afternoon. We don't have to be too bright to survive here.

It's likely just a funny coincidence but the "Yana" River caused me to think of "Ishi",the last man of his tribe in Calif. after they were killed off.

I'm thinking "Yana" was either the name of his "Tribe" or meant "man",possibly both,in his language.

It's been a long while since I read about Ishi,so I might be wrong.

"In Austin, it was 80 degrees this afternoon. We don't have to be too bright to survive here."

The temperature was/is pretty warm here in Mobile too. My son from Glendora, Calif visiting for Christmas was complaining about the cold here in Mobile. I noticed the temperature forecast today for Glendora was 33-60. Mobile's was 60-73, lol.

"B,thanks for the link."

You're welcome. There's also a one hour documentary on Ishi, which I've seen.
