WASHINGTON — President Bush's overwhelming strength among white men looms as a central obstacle between Democrats and the White House as 2004 approaches.

In an election season heavily shaped by terrorism and national security, several recent polls suggest Bush could dominate white male voters as thoroughly as Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush did during their three successive presidential victories in the 1980s.

White men compose just under 40% of the electorate, with white women just over 40%, and minorities composing the rest.

If the cost to provide education and health care to a family of 5 costs only $5,000 a year then the family would have to pay $5,000 in sales tax to make up for the cost.

Which is a real bargain compared to the cost to society of 5 uneducated and unhealthy dependents.

Chicago and New York City has MORE " urban sprawl ", because of immigration, since 1970 ? Not that I know about. Chicago's " sprawl ", since 1970, has been upwardly mobile and empyt-nester fed. So has New York's been. The gentrification of both Chicago and all five boroughs of N.Y.C.,still has most immigrants, legal and otherwise,living in slums, just as they did in the early part of the 20th century and before.

No, actually, I take that last bit away. Slums were built and expanded upon, in Manhattan, in the mid to late parts of the 19th century, so, yes, immigrants did, indeed, add to Manhattan's " urban sprawl "; just NOT since 1970!

Good deal. I get so tired of hearing about the "Catholic vote" going to democrats --- not true nowadays. I think you know the feeling. :)

I sure do! When the ever-so-enlightened media talk about the Catholic vote, they usually mean non-practicing Catholics-in-name-only. Similarly, the so-called Jewish vote is often comprised of those who never set foot in a synagogue. People who actually share the values of their respective religions are left out of the count. Hopefully not for long (but shh...don't tell the left that religious people vote too!).

Your claim was that the sales taxes that an illegal pays offsets the income taxes he does not plus the social welfare he illegally sucks up.
It has been demonstrated, even in your own posts, that such illegals do not make enough legitimate money to be able to buy significant quantities of taxable items.
Consequently, the math does not add up to a total which supports your contention. Quite the opposite.
Now, try to stick with facts and figures this time, and address the points raised.
