Read the article they were fighting Syrians from day one and now they are fighting Iranians and other foreign terrorists.

Thank you, and welcome home, Sergeant Coffman. Thank you for helping give my daughter a free country to grow up in.

Thank you sir, for your service.

Attention to Orders: SGT Andrew Coffman,
and all who served with you on Thunder Run:

For gallantry, bravery, and determination above and beyond
the call of duty, magnificent displays of
exceptional skill and valour in face of the enemy
and against overwhelming odds and force,
you are all hereby recognized and awarded
the designation of GREAT AMERICAN HEROES!

Maybe this sounds corny coming from a civy,
but I assure you that it is heartfelt and reflects
the sentiments of all right-thinking Americans.

BTW, were you in the tank with the spinning turret?
That must have been one wild ride.

Best Wishes, STAY SAFE, and THANK YOU AGAIN.

FReegards,

Great book. Also, try "Generation Kill" by Evan Wright. The author wears his leftist politics on his sleeve occasionally, but is very fair to the Marines he covers, and writes a compelling narrative of men in battle.

That's a hell-of-a-story. Thanks for the ping. I didn't know they ran into and through that much resistance, but now that I read it, I'm not surprised. It was truly an audacious attack.

The only thing I wonder about is, why didn't they have close air support? Helicopters may have been too vulnerable, but it looks like they could have used fighters (especially A-10's) ahead of the columns, along both flanks, and all around the places where they set up perimeters.
