FAR FROM THE FEAST

December 25, 2003 -- DEAR Pfc. Smith, Most of your fellow Americans won't think of you today. Some may see a news clip of your Christmas dinner in Iraq, filmed against a backdrop of holiday decorations your unit scraped together. Those who once served in the ranks themselves will think of you at least briefly. And you'll be cherished in the hearts, if not in the arms, of your loved ones.

This nearly moved me to tears. I spent Christmas of '81 afloat in the Arabian Sea on a U.S. warship. I badly missed my family and just wanted to get through the day while looking forward to Christmas of '82. I won't forget our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coasties today. And they'll be remembered in prayer before we eat.

But most of us won't think of you at all. And that's a wonderful thing.

It's your great gift to us.

It was hard not to think of our military away from home this morning, particularly in Iraq. Happened when the news popped on even before the first cup of coffee.
Evil takes no holiday, and those who are on the line to fight evil and to protect our way of life (right or wrong) deserve our thoughts and our prayers.

In fact, if there is some random way to send messages to our troops on this special day, I would love to hear about it. Personally, I no longer know anyone in the military.

Thanks John for the post.

Daddy was just commenting this week that he spent five Chrismases away during WWII. No e-mail or two week leaves then.

His comment "Christmas is in your heart. You make your own joy!" Hats off to our vets and those who are currently serving. May they find joy and Christmas in the heart.

Thanks for posting this, John. We Vets think of them every day, but most of all today. They are putting themselves on the line so that most of us can be distracted in peace.

Bless 'em all, the past, the present and the future!

Yes, we are safe because of them, but I can not forget them today or any day. I pray for their safety, I think of them miles away from their homes, and I thank God for the gift of these noble men and women.

December 25, 2003 -- DEAR Pfc. Smith, Most of your fellow Americans won't think of you today.

Thanks to you Pfc. Smith, a lot of self-centered Hollyweird types
will sit around thinking that their airport (LAX) was the only possible target for
Air France flights from Paris...
never once thinking that Big Ben or an American installation in
Europe (Ramstein, Landstuhl, sp?) would be more likely...as they could hit with
fuel tanks still nearly full.

Figthing for a bunch of morons to be spoiled brats...
some would call that silly, but most of us know it's the sign of real character.

Thank you, Publius6961. Hope your Christmas was joyful

As for ways to contact the troops ~ you came to the right place.   (^:

You can 'adopt' a Soldier who receives little mail. Freepmail tiki.

You can send letters to our wounded troops at Walter Reed. The DC Freepers and TruthNtegrity and ALOHA RONNIE, offer lots of good tips (and addresses to send cards). Check the link above.

Click on this link from the DoD "War news" websight Defend America : Support For Our Troops

If you have the desire, there is a way you can help. Warning: it is addictive ~ and contageous! *g*
