The day after he took office, Clinton lifted the ban and directed Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala to assess how mifepristone could be tested and licensed domestically. Clinton personally wrote to Hoechst, asking that it file a new drug application with the FDA, but the company still refused.

Add Holly to the Clinton Body Count

I simply cannot believe they are considering making this drug available OTC, especially in light of Holly's death.

What a world.

This is not the pill that is to be made OTC, that is called Plan B, for use within 72 hours after unprotected sex.

" . . . and in her own words she just felt like it wasn't an abnormal thing she was doing," Ehsan says.

Nope. It's perfectly normal nowadays to kill off the children you don't want. Brave new world, it is, and Kalifornia is once again in the vanguard.

Very, very, very long article. It could be summed up in a couple of sentences: "Holly Patterson was a beautiful young girl. Too bad she had to die, but that's the breaks. We wouldn't want to do anything to limit abortion in any way. If Holly could speak out now from the grave, she would surely defend other young girls' Right To Choose, just like she did. So, let's just move on and keep abortion safe, legal, and common as mud. If a few other young girls like Holly have to die, tough luck."

No one anywhere has ever proposed making RU-486 available over the counter.

"No one anywhere has ever proposed making RU-486 available over the counter."

Oh? Then exactly what medication is being debated to provide OTC that is similar?

"Plan B", which works only prior to implantation (maximum of about 3 days post-fertilization). Prior to implantation, there is no pregnancy to abort. RU-486 is an abortifacient, which causes an already implanted embryo to be "disimplanted".

"Prior to implantation, there is no pregnancy to abort."

Well, I guess that depends on one's definition. There are many who consider a woman pregnant once the egg has been fertilized. No point in arguing semantics though.

"Plan B" can be just as dangerous if missued as any other drug. Still strange that they want to make this OTC but not birth control pills.

The day after he took office, Clinton lifted the ban... the FDA breached its own rules in its rush to approve Mifeprex to appease the Clinton White House...

clinton, again. I suppose we'll be reviewing his creepy Legacy for years.

approximately 1.3 million abortions are performed domestically every year...

It's telling the same people who will turn over Hell and Earth to support this practice are mostly in favor of eliminating the 2nd Amendment, lest any more "innocent children" be killed by the evil of available firearms.

If you're an American child, you have a greater chance of dying through abortion than any other means, by a factor of 1,000. Accidental shootings hardly even register.

In the interests of Fair Labeling, "Planned Parenthood" should change it's official logo to "Planned Murder"!

Nobody who has a clue about anything thinks a woman is pregnant before the embryo is implanted. They may think the embryo is a full-fledged human being, just as they think it is when it's in a petri dish or freezer at an IVF clinic, and they may think it's wrong to interfere with implantation, but there is no pregnancy without implantation.

There can be no natural miscarriage or induced abortion prior to implantation, and the risks associated with natural miscarriage are essentially identical to the risks associated with an RU-486-induced abortion. Women can and do die from complications of natural miscarriages if they don't receive adequate medical treatment quickly enough, just as Holly Patterson died after an RU-486-induced abortion because she didn't receive adequate medical treatment quickly enough. It wasn't the RU-486 that killed her -- it was a combination of her delay in seeking medical treatment, and more alarmingly, the hospital's failure to diagnose the seriousness of her condition and sending her home again when she obviously needed to be in the hospital.

Good luck

It is VERY similar as it also makes the lining of the uterus unacceptable to a fertilized egg. And if it is OTC, how is anyone going to guarantee that a young girl 5 weeks pregnant won't take 10 times the normal dose to attempt to cause an abortion? What happens if she succeeds in killing the baby and it isn't expelled?

"What happens if she succeeds in killing the baby and it isn't expelled?"

Gee, I guess the same as what happens if she jumps off a stool and suceeds in killing the baby and it isn't expelled.

You convinced me.
We should also outlaw stools without a presecription.

Actually, the feminists were trying to have this drug regimen (it's not just mifepristone) available on demand from the Pharmacist (that's not exactly OTC, but it's not by prescription only either.
