Saddam capture doesn't change Jackson Lee's mind [SJL invites Syrian Pres. to speak in TX]

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, said today that the capture of Saddam Hussein does nothing to change her opposition to the war in Iraq.

"I believe we should have had a congressional vote before declaring war, and we should have allowed U.N. inspectors time to finish their work," Jackson Lee said during a news conference at Bush Intercontinental Airport. "As to WMDs (weapons of mass destruction), the fact they have not been found I believe shows I was right."

One of the more outspoken congressional critics of the war in Iraq, Jackson Lee had returned to Houston from a recent terrorism fact-finding mission to Europe and the Middle East. She and nine other members of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security met with officials in Spain, Italy, Syria and Israel, she said.

She praised troops from the 4th Infantry Division based at Ft. Hood for catching the the former Iraqi dictator Saturday in an underground hideout at a farm house south of Tikrit. She said Saddam's capture presents an opportunity for the United States to form a broader international coalition to implement and maintain a peaceful government in Iraq. She also called for international participation in Saddam's trial.

Jackson Lee said she was so impressed with Syrian President Bashar Assad during her visit that she invited him to speak in Texas, even though his country is designated by the United States as a rogue state and a sponsor of terrorism.

"I'm sure someone will write a headline, 'Congresswoman invites a terrorist'," Jackson Lee said. "But that's not what I'm trying to do."

She said Assad showed his willingness to negotiate by meeting with the congressional delegation despite President Bush's signing on Friday of the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003, which could impose sanctions on Syria.

"He's a 39-year-old president who even gave us a picture of him and his children," Jackson Lee said. "Let's see what he can do. He's not his father," a reference to Hafez Assad, who ruled Syria with an iron grip for 30 years before his death in 2000.

The racial composition of the 18th Congressional District in Texas from the 2000 Census is the following:

Anglo 21.2%
Black 43.0%
Hispanic 32.6%
Other 3.2%

Remember, racists and gullible voters come in all colors. Need I say more?

That was the Mars rover that we sent up. She wanted it to pan around and show the flag that the Astronauts had planted on Mars on an earlier flight.

The significance of sending a robotic land rover to Mars was completely lost on her since she mistakenly believe that humans had already been there and back.

She'd make a great running mate for Kooky Clark, the candidate who believes in time travel.

Ms. Jackson Lee's campaign was also bouyed by Enron donations as well. She was one of the few Rats to defend Enron even when it was clear to everyone else that they were toast. Ms. Jackson Lee's district is the closest thing we have in Texas to a banana republic.

What's even more frightening is that in the event of the Democrats ever taking the majority in the House of Representatives then you'll have ppl like Jackson-Lee and others heading the committees and running the show. Minority set aside districts will bring this on even though most other non-set aside districts continue to re-elect the same person over and over.

Does harboring a known terrorist supporter constitute sedition or giving aid to a known enemy ammount to treason?

How can she "negotiate"??? She is not the President! Did anyone ever remind her of this little detail?

My last question is: If you poke a needle in her head, will she 'pop'?

"Freak". I believe the correct term is "congressfreak". And I'm soooo sorry for you, by the way. But cheer up...I'm stuck with Chet Edwards--second only to Jesse Jackson in sticking his snout everywhere it doesn't belong and claiming credit for anything that may happen to work out the right way. If there's a television or newspaper camera within a 150-mile radius, Chet's mug is sure to find it. And how the local media LOVE giving him all the free attention they can! Barf.
