The only illegal immigrant amnesty in American history, so far, was promoted and signed into law by none other than President Ronald Reagan. That law, which also weakened prior immigration law (and, to some extent, made 9/11 possible) was a travesty. It was among President Reagan's worst mistakes, in my opinion. Does that mean I think any less of his OVERALL record as president? Heck no! Does it mean that, if by some miracle I had a chance to vote for him again, I wouldn't? Double heck no!!!
There are going to be positives and negatives in ANY administration. What too many folks on the Right side of the political spectrum fail to do is balance the positives vs. negatives. The positive side of the ledger for President Reagan way overwhelms the negative. Such is also the case for President George W. Bush. Reagan was the last great president of the 20th Century. Dubya is the first great president of the 21st. Without doubt and despite their flaws.
I agree. Reagan was simply bowing to his Capitalist masters who want illegal immigration to undermine the worker's position in society. It's succeeded masterfully, since our real wages are now below 1970 level. We need a candidate who recognizes that in order to remain a sovereign nation, a wealthy nation and a prosperous nation, we must bring back manufacturing and livable wage jobs. The unFree Trade crowd has destroyed this nation.
