I think the Dems are losing supporters so rapidly, and know it, that they're trying to create the illusion that there's a big flow in the opposite direction. And I've also read, and believe, that the Vietnam generation which is currently in control of the Democratic party contains a higher proportion of out and out socialists than any generation since the one that came of age in the thirties, which explains why they're losing support. Anyway, socialists have absolutely no compunction about lying-- they consider it a legitimate tool in achieving their ends. Hence, the mis-representation. I've seen leftists do this on other boards-- claim to be recently converted Republicans, or even, hilariously enough, conservatives. I see right through these claims, although I'm not sure someone younger and less politically aware would.

As a former lifetime far-leftist I can tell you I was finally turned off by the socialist lies at the time of the Clarence Thomas hearings.

I watched many hours of the hearings on PBS. What the reporters "saw" was not what I saw.

It became very clear that the Democrats found they needed to promulgate lies and to smear others, in order to keep the upper hand.

Nina Totenburg was the most repellant of the toadies.

I think other baby boomers are drifting to the right, even if they do not have a specific moment of insight.

The Clintons, Jesse Jackson, Tom Daschle, and Chuck Schumer will most likely die unenlightened. They would lose their grip on power, if they softened their hard-line stance in politics.
