Since its inception, Free Republic has been the world's premeire online gathering place for the discussion of the news, issues, opinions, and just about everything else.
There have been several times when the members of Free Republic have posted important breaking news stories first, scooping the outlets of the mainstream media.
Some exemplary threads merit mention in what I'd like to call the Free Republic Hall of Fame Threads.
I believe this is a good way to remember and share some of the most important discussions that have occured on Free Republic.

Do you have a link to 4mycountry's admission that she is 13 years old? Another one I'm searching for is the Big Gay Al thread. That was weird.

I tried the archives but could only find one thread on Ted and Thunder
Ted rode his horse Thunder from Ohio (IIRC) to DC to protest and once he was discovered by FreeRepublic we became his support system along the way.
There were a whole series of threads documenting his journey.
Anyone have links?

Welcome to the party! The Hobbit Hole stuff was started off of some obscure thread about someone who had actually built a "hobbit hole." It turned into a gathering place for all of the Lord of the Rings fans on FR, and there are A LOT of them. For some reason, I completely missed the fact that we actually hit the post limit on the third thread. Imagine that - 65,000+ posts.

The link works for me. But it may have to do with archived threads and how John Robinson maintains the database.
If you want to see the threads, I guess you'll have to do your own search on Ted Tanner and select the archive option

Thanks for posting that! That Gore freep in 2000 was what brought me to FR.

Desperation forced a horrific decision (re: jumping from the WTC) I just read that article; I watched footage of 9/11 live from practically the moment the second plane hit, and the Beeb did transmit footage of jumpers. It was absolutely horrific. I was physically sick more than once that day. I think the people who think that Bush and Blair are worse than Saddam or bin Laden should be forced to watch that footage over and over, Clockwork Orange-style.
