Democrats left with few issues in 2004

The economic wind is at President Bush's back, and the passage of a Republican-backed expansion of Medicare coverage to include a prescription drug benefit, political watchers say, leaves Democrats with few political bones to pick in 2004.

"The Democrats will be left running their whole 2004 campaign in the past tense," said political consultant Dick Morris, who was a top aide to President Clinton. "They are out of issues."

We won! We won! We expanded Medicare! We included a prescription drug benefit! We Won! We Won! We Won!

And people are worried that our new governor, Ahnold, is too liberal....

"The leading economic indicator is that Democrats have stopped talking about the economy," said Jonathan Grella, spokesman for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Texas Republican.

LOL! Truer words were never spoken.

Another Mugging on Capitol Hill (Democratic Party, R.I.P.)
The Hill ^ | November 26, 2003 | Albert Eisele

Posted on 11/25/2003 7:53 PM PST by quidnunc

The Democratic Party, one of the twin pillars of the American political system and a major force in Congress for much of the 20th century, died last weekend while working on Capitol Hill. It was 175 years old. The cause of death was injuries suffered from an apparent mugging while trying to rescue the New Deal, the New Frontier and the Great Society.

Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer said the victim’s body was found Monday in the excavation for the Capitol Visitor Center, shortly after Congress cleared the way for overhauling Medicare, the Great Society program created in 1965 that was considered the party’s most important legacy.

The time of death was uncertain, but it probably occurred between early Saturday morning and Monday afternoon, Gainer said.

Even though the body bore signs of a violent struggle, Gainer did not rule out the possibility of suicide, citing reports that the victim had been severely depressed since November 2000.

Gainer said he is investigating several leads, including a tip that three top House Republicans — Speaker Denny “Hardball” Hastert (Ill.), Majority Leader Tom “The Sledgehammer” DeLay (Texas) and Ways and Means Chairman Bill “Take No Prisoners” Thomas (Calif.) — were seen making threatening gestures toward the victim in recent days.

He also said two surviving Senate Democrats, John “Huey Long Didn’t Go Far Enough” Breaux (La.) and Max “Let’s Make a Deal, Any Deal” Baucus (Mont.), were considered possible suspects because of their involvement in efforts to help Republicans overhaul Medicare.

“There are a lot of potential suspects who wished the victim ill will,” Gainer said. He indicated that he intends to interrogate AARP Chief Executive William Novelli, Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie and conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh.

Hastert, while denying that he or his colleagues had anything to do with the victim’s demise, said he has no regrets that Congress will now become a unicameral body, like that in Nebraska.

Although I'm happy that Bush has eliminated the tactical advantage the 'Rats usually have concerning prescription drug benefits - this "victory" and the 'Rat response to voters, reminds me of a joke I heard in the Ukraine about the "New Russians" - mobsters who had pretty much stolen Russian wealth during their transition to capitalism:

New Russian #1: "Hey, look at my new belt! I got it over at that store for $700."

New Russian #2: "You idiot!! You coulda got it across the street for $1200!"

You can't hide them from this thief, the real theft will occur when these babies reach adulthood.

I just wonder what the fall out from what the bully unions are pulling with the supermarkets will be...

I truly believe this is an attempt "all means possible" by the left to destroy the economy... just in time for 2004.

Whith all these people across the country picketing not making much money...and hurting the markets....

I don't know... just my paranoid opinion...

(To the tune of "New Kid in Town" by the Eagles)

There’s talk on K street, it sounds so familiar.
Great Society! everybody’s watching you.
People you meet they all seem to know you,
Too bad your old friends treat you like you’re something new.

Georgie-come-lately, the new kid in town,
Think everyone loves you? You ain't bought them all.

You look in Ted's eyes, the music begins to play.
Hopeless utopians, here we go again.
But after a while you can no longer pay.
It’s those restless 'crats that never end.

Bushie-come-lately, the new kid in town,
Will Hilly still love you when Bill's not around?

There’s so many things you should have withheld here
But night after night you’re willing to pay dear,
Just pay dear tears on your shoulder.

There’s talk on K street, it’s there to remind you
That it doesn’t really matter which side you’re on.
You’re walking away and we’re talking behind you.
We will never forget you till somebody new comes along.

How much you spent lately? there’s a new Dem in town.
Everybody loves him, don’t they? now he’s spending more
And you’re still around, oh my my.
There’s a new kid in town,
Just another new kid in town.

Oo-hoo, everybody’s spending like the new kid in town.
Oo-hoo, everybody’s bending like the new kid in town.
There’s a new kid in town You will have to hear it
There’s a new kid in town Forever you will to hear it
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town everybody’s spending
There’s a new kid in town people been offending
There’s a new kid in town
There’s a new kid in town (repeat & fade to Democrat)
