But Robert is suing Sharon for suggesting that Neil fathered Maria's baby. How is Sharon supposed to defend herself? Sounds like a soap opera to me.

Sharon could just deny it; then Robert would have to provide witnesses to Sharon's saying that Neil fathered Maria's baby who's supposed to be Robert's. Of course, if the DNA test showed that Neil is the father, then Maria could sue Neil for child support, and Robert could sue Neil for alienation of affections - at least if this was a paperback novel ...
