Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- The House of Representatives passed legislation that includes $23 billion in tax breaks and regulatory changes to boost U.S. energy production, based on President George W. Bush's proposals.

Bush and congressional Republicans say the bill, passed 246- 180, will reduce U.S. reliance on oil from the Middle East and curb chances of another power blackout like that in August. It also will boost the economy, they said.

Republicans dropped provisions to allow drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge, as recommended by Vice President Dick Cheney's 2001 task force.

Don't tell me they are going to blame our continued dependance on foriegn oil on Key Lay....

Without Alaska this bill has no teeth, IMHO.

Isn't this the same MTBE that was mandated by the ENVIRONMENTAL PERSECUTION AGENCY to clean up auto emissions?

Could it possibly be that the EPA didn't fully test it, as they would have required of a private company?

``It's a bill that leaves no lobbyist behind,'' McCain said.

As much as I despise this punk, he does come up with a good one liner now and then.

I agree - No ANWR means this is not a very useful bill. The best I can say for it is that is must have something good in it if Ed Markey the Leftist hates it so: ``It is without question the single worst environmental bill of all time,'' said Representative Edward Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat.

I think they knew they didn't want my vote.

They closed it out with 60+ % voting against the idea of Bush visiting!
