Inside Politics-The God Gulf

"The most striking cleavage [in American life] is the God Gulf, and it should terrify the Democrats," New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof writes.

"Put simply, liberals are becoming more secular at a time when America is becoming increasingly religious, the consequence of a new Great Awakening. Americans, for example, are significantly more likely now than in 1987 to say they 'completely agree' that 'prayer is an important part of my daily life' and that 'we all will be called before God on Judgment Day to answer for our sins.'

Nothing proves the truth of this piece more than the gulf we are seeing in the US Senate.

I saw a broad range of spiritual leaders, very diverse, stand tonight with our Republican Senators.

It was wonderful.

Personally I with some other countries -- Saudi Arabia comes to mind -- would become more secular.

This all gets down to being held accountable for your actions and responsibility which the dems and Atheist want no part of, so therefore God does not exist...

Oh -- sorry -- the title said "God Gulf," not "Allah Gulf." That's right. We want religious CHRISTIANS, just not religious MUSLIMS. Sorry.

The only group of people which defy this statistic are blacks. Blacks have a strong religious heritage and it seems that the more religious a black is, the more he/she is aligned with the Democrats.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere yesterday that 30 percent of Blacks call themselves conservative while 22 percent call themselves liberals. Quite frankly I found this remarkable. I've long suspected more Blacks are "closet" Republicans then what is portrayed by the media. I think the unfair treatment you're seeing of Black Republicans by liberal Blacks will drive more to the Republican side.

I'm amazed that so many women vote Democrat. They, it seems to me, should be the Original Conservatives.

I saw Bill Clinton coming out of church more than once. Beleif or disbelief in a god is not a reliable predictor of responsible behavior.

like an artichoke, the layers slowly peal away to reveal that there is no longer a democrat party in America - in it's stead, a collection of elitists posture themselves as saviours (Eric Hoffer, The True Believer; Fredrick Hayek, The Road to Serfdom); who believe the State should be prominent in their lives (Communism); who call something as unspeakably horrendous as partial birth abortion a "controversial, certain type of abortion"; who no longer believe in God, though they strangely exhibit the same passionate sort of worship for their idol in Chappaqua.

They left is the achilles heel of this nation which our enemies abroad use at their leisure as they attack us.

The left is the party of the AntiChrist.

Women generally seem to look at government the way the look at a husband; provider and protector. As the Nuke Family freys around the edges, pre-911 big government was cast in this "provider" role, providing $ and support. After 911, government's role has been recast as "protector"; this should scare the hell out of the Dems. Fortunately, like a non-reformed alcoholic, they are busy pretending that "everything is just fine."
