They made some of the best music ever, he will be missed! They used to own a restaurant in Huntington Beach or Fountain Valley and perform there sometimes.

The RH had a too short a run, I think, but Spector cheated his artists of royalties and Verve, if I'm not mistaken, by then owned by MGM and a young Mike Curb who was stealing other labels' artists, left and right with million dollar advances, didn't give them enough support. Around the same time Roy Orbison, Herman's Hermits and the Animals all died on MGM Records.
Incidentally, Spector was incredibly bitter about their departure and a few years later claimed in a rare interview that these guys had no talent and he was the one who made them. Funny, it seemed right at the time as they were now has beens, but the truth seems to me is that like many artists they only needed good material and a good producer. Rock and Roll Heaven proved it!

I'm so sad. When I read this I decided to play their cd. The first song I saw on the cd was called, "Go Ahead and Cry". Sigh, maybe I will.

>> Unchained Melody is practically the same song as Elvis' 'Can't help Falling In Love' and Chicago's 'Color My World'.
But Unchained Melody was around much earlier. One of my first albums was by a black fellow named Roy Hamilton who did breathtaking versions of Unchained Melody and Ebb Tide -- both performed years later by Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers.

Flowers On The Wall - Statler Brothers
I keep hearin' your concern about my happiness
But all that thought you've given me is, conscience I guess
If I were walkin' in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none
While you and your friends are worryin''bout me, I'm havin'lots of fun
Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn, with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me
I've nothin' to do
Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doin' fine
You can always find me here and havin' quite a time
Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn, with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me
I've nothin' to do
It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyway, my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete
Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn, with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me
I've nothin' to do
Now don't tell me
I've nothin' to do

The Animals (the original group, not the later psychedelic version) was my favorite band of that era. As big as they were, they could have been huge if not for corrupt management and bloated egos (mainly Burdon and Price) that destroyed the band before its time. Recently sent an email to guitarist Hilton Valentine's website, and received a cordial reply. Made my day.

By the way, their records, from the early ones on, which were bigger hits than the article in #10 acknowledges, played on what was then called "soul" radiostations and fooled many people into thinking the singers were soul brothers. Well, they were, weren't they?
To: WestCoastGal
Yep, they owned a chain of nightclubs called 'The Hop' in the early 80's. I used to go to the Fountain Valley club a lot back in those days and saw them perform there one night.

The Ronettes were the sexiest female group of them all.
