When was the last time, that there was NOT a candidate, in either party, at convention time, to be named THE presidential candidate ? Do you know ? Was it in your lifetime ? Hint, hint ... it was 4 decades ago.

President Ford did not have the requisite delegates for the nomination heading into the 1976 convention.

We disagree only on the probability assigned to a deadlocked convention on the first ballot. On that, only time will tell.

I'm of a mixed mind. In some ways, I would like the vampire to take her run and be crushed. I so want the Clintons out of our national hair. OTOH, a race against HRC will be the most polarizing race of our age. This country needs some unity and civility. 2004 will be especially nasty no matter what. But HRC will bring out the very worst in the left and in us. I'll be walking precincts in any event.

What if Dean WITHDRAWS from the race, say after (totally hypothetical here) an old child molestation charge surfaces?

I'm still betting on Hellary Clinton / Weasley Clark 2004. They have something Dean doesn't have.

They have that signed-in-blood deal with Lucifer.

late 2005 : Second Civil War in America begins.

I see it beginning more around 2007-2010. I don't like it, but we haven't been this divided since the 1850's.

"Clinton can breeze to the 2008 Democratic nomination. She has only to indicate her willingness to run, and the party will nominate her by little short of acclamation."

Five years is a lifetime in politics, and Hillary is smart enough to know that. The nomination is her's for the asking this time and I don't see how she can pass it up.

Yep ... but I think that this time it's going to be a lot worse .... How'd you like to see the democrats attempting to use the UN to bring troops into to 'stabilize the situation' ?

Service,

FWIW
My prediction is that Hillary will remain an "esteemed senior Senator" in much the same way that Ted Kennedy has.

Bill Clinton has the sort of damaged personality that will not permit anyone else associated with him to eclipse his Legacy. Hillary as President will leave him looking even more of a nasty little fat boy than he is already. If she did by some cheating miracle win the nomination, he would do something to cast her in a dreadful light. He would either conciously or subconciously sabotage her.

Hillary has done her job. She helped The Clinton get elected and re-elected, and gotten her reward. She will get no more.

we haven't been this divided since the 1850's.

We can thank the politics of triangulation for that. After eight years of creating and then pitting one group against another and then taking the middle position, the country ended up split 50%-50%.

Yeah, he acts like a supportive spouse and all, but in truth he can only relate to people as they can benefit him.

I just shudder when I see her. She's even more sinister than Billy Jeff, if possible.

With her negatives approaching that of Mullah Omar, Bush would trounce her.

Heh, heh. Mullah Omar wouldnt be happy to know he is compared to a woman. I guess in this instance he is safe...

Yeah, the Dems would try it, but I don't think the member nations of the UN would go for it. Any UN force sent here as peacekeepers would find themselves in a meat grinder the likes of which has never been seen.

Even if the UN was stupid enough to try such a stunt, they would maybe get as far as Appalachia before being cut to ribbons by American partisans. In the West, they wouldn't make it more than 100 miles past the coast. Of course, they would be welcomed with open arms by the East and West Coast leftists, until the looting and raping starts.

Glory,
