It surprises me to see folks here advocate behaving in the same manner.

Not THAT surprising. I mean, it's just treaties with Indians - not tlike we are human beings or anything, the way some people act. Heck, there are tons of people here who fall into one of several categories:

A. The Category who don't think Indians should be allowed to vote because "They ain't american citizens"
B. The category that thinks American Indians will be just like the palestinians, and will begin suicde bombings any minute...
C. People who think old treaties are stupid, and we shouldn't honor them, but don't know why.
D. The category who have the misguided belief that all indians pay zero taxes, because that's what they 'heard somewhere'...
E. People who just flat out hate American Indians because we are not White, but would never say so on the public forum - they'll save that for freepmail.

Then, of course, there are the decent conservatives on this board who know and understand that the treaties made between the U.S. Government and the various tribes are based on the constitution of the United States, and that breaking the treaties goes against the very principles this nation was founded on. But it seems, often enough, they are in the distinct minority here. Too bad, too.

You seem to be taking this discussion awfully personally! Of course we are human beings!

I think many people (myself included) feel that the sovereign immunity and other privileges granted to tribes are just plain unfair. Far from allowing tribes to have land to allow them to maintain some of their original autonomy and lifestyle, "tribal lands" have mostly become, in many cases, "where can we put up a casino next?"

I don't think it's fair that American Indians can be free of US income tax for money earned on the reservation, yet vote in elections. I say, choose whether you want to be an American citizen, or pick whether you want to be an Indian, with all of its attendant perks (free college, tribal dividend payments, etc.).

As for treaties, and honoring the Constitution, it doesn't seem like the state or Federal governments have any respect for our federal constitution. I'm not sure why Indians feel like they should escape the same loss of freedoms that the rest of us face.

Chad, I'm MUCH more comfortable having the Native American's in America then I am all these diverse people coming in here. Native American's were here first! I'm for the Casino's and anything they can do to stick it to our lawmakers. The lawmakers are just SICK about the Native American's being able to go against "their wishes," which means 'CONTROL THE PEOPLE.' I'm sick of them! (the lawmakers)
