WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush told ambassadors from Muslim states that his administration does not tolerate anti-Muslim bigotry, but he stopped short of condemning a senior Pentagon official who said Muslims do not worship "a real God."

Several Muslim-American leaders, who were not invited to the Ramadan-season dinner at the White House, protested outside the gates by holding their own Iftar ceremony and rally.

And the part where Bush demands that Muslims renounce violence is where?

I've read Boykin's statements and I don't recall him saying that. He said that the Somali warlord worshipped an idol.

search google for "muslims denounce terrorism" and you'll find tons of statements, interviews, and writings by leading muslims denouncing terrorism and violence.

The Dept. of State maintains a list of denunciations by American Muslims at: http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/islam/musresp.htm

I'd argue Bush continues to take the right approach.

Wonder if the White House might have a list of all the Muslims on the planet who favor the State of Israel or
strongly back our efforts in Iraq? If they do have such a list, it's very short.

I understand why Bush cannot say to these Islamic nags, "Hey, Mohammed ... Go pound salt." Realpolitik dictates he offer some mushy crumbs to scolds from the Religion of Peace (one whose adherents perpetrate "honor" killings, plot to pick up where Hitler left off, and engage in mass murder via hijacked jetliners).
All the president need do is ensure Gen. Boykin is in no way censured -- let alone reassigned -- for his fair and legitimate comments.
That alone will send a subtle rebuke to whiners who strain at the gnat of alleged anti-Muslim bigotry, but swallow the camel of Islamic-inspired atrocities.

Agreed. Anyone who argues otherwise and advocates a war between civilizations is, according to Pat Buchanan, a witting or unwitting accomplice of Bin Laden.

Actually it is simpler than politics.

Attempted effort to ban islam is the primary trigger sign for physical jihad. Efforts to snuff out the practice of islam because of the extreme actions of islamists will cause those same islamists to go into overdrive.

Consider them a threat to safety and personal liberty and they will show just how much of a threat they can be.

Oddly, 90% of the links are just US State Dept. posts.
And some of the off-site links are dead.

And none of the "statements" I read disassociates Islam from violence.

The "unequivocal" denunciations of Sept 11 terror seem equivocal to me because:
a - The terrorists use of Islam as justification is not condemned;
b - Only the results are condemned (suggesting that different results might have warranted a different analysis).
c - Islam is not used to condemn the terror;
d - I've read unanswered arguments that show Islam and the Qu'ran allows (recommends?) equivocation in just such a manner.

Until all Islamic "leaders" (both political and religious) renounce terror AND teach that Islam doesn't allow such a weapon, then eternal vigilance seems wise.

Next year, our President plans to import about 100,000 fresh new muslims as legal greencard-holding immigrants, just like he did last year - and the year before.

This ass-kissing bs has got to stop.

Are you ready to take on 4 billion non-Christians in your quest to turn this into a "holy war"?

This was the first link I clicked on from that list:

AMC Condemns Murder of Daniel Pearl
http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/islam/a022102.htm

"We offer our deepest condolences to the wife and other survivors of Mr. Daniel Pearl. He was killed by people who have no regard for human life and no respect for the values and teachings of Islam. The murder of Mr. Daniel Pearl is satanic," said Dr. Nedzib Sacirbey, Secretary of the Board at AMC.

This was the second:

Muslim Leader Speaks on Rising Voice of Moderation
http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/islam/a013002.htm

"Islam has no room for terrorism," he said. "Those who perpetuate violence in the name of Islam distort and abuse the texts in the name of their cause, but the texts themselves are not to blame and should not be the subject of scrutiny since legitimate Muslim scholarship utterly rejects the aberrant interpretations."
