Okay, I stand corrected. It is possible for some people to get sick from the shot. But the risk to the average healthy person is so tiny as to be negligible.

Of course, if you are not the average person (like my friend) then your risk is far from negligible.

My cousin went deaf in one ear virtually overnight from getting a flu shot. True story.
Id say she had a pretty severe side effect to her first ever flu shot about 5 - 6 years ago when she was mid-forties. Testing for the sudden onset of deafness showed she had brain lesions and after going through an excruciating 3 weeks of testing (painful things like spinal tap) and being told initially it could be spinal meningitis they discovered that she had developed these lesions and thus the deafness from taking the flu shot.
Yes, her case was rare but it did happen. She was a surgical nurse at the time and I remember she explained exactly how that can happen (wish I could remember the details) and also that the physicians she worked with described how the flu vaccine is made and how it works or doesnt work and she told me if she'd have known that she would never have had that shot.
I can also tell you that the absolute worst flu I ever had was one winter a couple months after I did get a flu shot. I never got one again and after knowing what happened to my cousin I'll never do it in the future. Besides I heard a doctor on TV yesterday saying this vaccine is not even the same strain as the flu they are experiencing but it will help "some" and more so with any possible complications of flu. It is NOT foolproof to get it and the risks in some of our opinions far outweigh the possible benefits.
