I am sitting here with an older road atlas, tryinmg to find the I10, but am confused.

I checked mapquest, and see 110 going toward the ocean. Is that the highway you mean?

Don't confuse the I-10 with the 110. The I-10 goes straight to the ocean in Santa Monica, all the way across the border to Arizona and beyond. It is the main artery from the eastern counties to downtown LA.

That's the one, going the other way. In Santa Monica there's a sign that delcares it to be "The Christopher Columbus Transcontinental Highway", I assume there is one more sign like it on the other end...
