Down the gravel road from his family's home on Country Place Lane in Hanover County, a flag flies at half-staff for Capt. John Robert "J.R." Teal.

He was killed Thursday when a mine exploded outside Baqubah, Iraq. Two fellow Army troops were injured.

Great idea, genius. Dishonor our heroes who fought and died there by hauling @ss. Let Iraq turn into another Iran and let all of the fanatics know that the US really is the proverbial paper tiger. We are reshaping the entire Middle East so we don't have any more 9-11's. We're doing it to protect ourselves, not out of our generosity for the Iraqis.
If you're really this spineless, maybe you should be over at DU.

"But with their son's death, the last thing the Teals want is for the effort in Iraq to end.

"We paid a price, damn it," Joseph Teal said. "Now let's finish this job."

Now.... you shut up, hang your tail between your legs and get outta here.

Amen to that.

Son of class of 55 here and active in family VMI gifting.

...sad to say...the 90s were not so good for the Institute.

My prayers for the man's family and a humble expression of gratitude for his sacrifice for us.

Have you taken your Prozac today? This is NOT Vietnam, no matter how badly you gutless cowards want it to be. We are reshaping the entire Middle East, not Southeast Asia. Try to keep the apples with the apples. Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iran are all going to get some of our "influence" too. But first we have to finish our business in Iraq, not run home crying like you probably did after your first school yard scrape.
Let me repeat myself in case you didn't read my first post: we are in Iraq for ourselves, not for the Iraqis. "Nation building" is a punchline.
Leave the discussions on national security to the adults.

It wasn't a losing war that prompted protests. It was protests that caused us to start losing the war.

The North saw the lack of resolve and decided that they COULD fight a long war with heavy casualties, just as long as certain elements of the public assisted them.
