Barbara Boxer and her ilk in the Senate today: everybody speaking IN FAVOR of the grotesque, torturous infanticide of the Partial Birth abortion... the Left keeps speaking of this as being the opening salvo of a slippery slope into the roll back of Roe v. Wade.
Please tolerate this vanity to allow me to rant a bit.
(1) "Roe" was railroaded. Norma McCorvey herself has repudiated the very court case that brought this about.
(2) The "Slippery Slope" has been in force and dragging us all into the abyss since 1973. The first step on this slope WAS abortion "rights."
(3) The Roe v. Wade decision did NOT permit abortion at any time on demand.
(4) Once the word "health" was being used with 'saving the life and health of the mother', this code phrase began being implemented as abortion at any time on demand, for "mental health" was assumed part of the equation. This was not permissible from Roe v. Wade, but has been upheld by numerous liberal courts since. Note: there is no test for "health" of the mother -- it is merely assumed to be improved by ridding her of the baby.
So now: one procedure, one TYPE of abortion, taking place AFTER the baby is fully viable is being banned... and the Left is apoplectic! This isn't the slippery slope -- we're already mired in the pit at the bottom of that hill from which we were perched in January of 1973. This merely erases one option for infanticide: many still remain.
Slippery Slope? Would Dr. Kevorkian have been tolerated AT ALL in 1970? How about Terri Schiavo's case? Think where we were then and where society is today. We are much more humane to convicted murderers than we are to babies trying to break free from the womb.
We now return you to your previously scheduled thread, already in progress. < /end rant >
