“I Apologize for Telling the Truth”

Army Lt. General William G. Boykin, the new U.S. deputy secretary for intelligence, apologized to his critics Friday for offending Muslims, after reportedly making some absolutely outrageous assertions, like Islamists hate the United States because it’s a Christian nation, that the real enemy is not Osama bin Laden but Satan, and that God put President Bush in the White House. These statements are outrageous… aren’t they?
Let’s look at ‘em:
1. “Islamists hate the United States because it’s a Christian nation.”
Sounds good to me.
2. “The real enemy is not Osama bin Laden but Satan.”
How does that quote go? “For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but with principalities, with wickedness in high places, etc.” Hey, it’s just the Bible. Maybe God can apologize too.
3. “God put President Bush in the White House.”
Okay, I’ll take the blame for this one. During the recount in Florida, I recall many times praying to God that he’d let Mr. Bush win instead of Al Gore. And I know MILLIONS of others were doing the same thing. Maybe prayer works, huh? So blame me, and blame millions of other Americans too. Oh yeah, blame God too—he answered the prayers!
Gen. Boykin is reported to have said of a 1993 battle with a Muslim militia leader in Somalia: “I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol.” Now this guy’s getting just a little too Old Testament here, isn’t he?
The general even had the audacity to make pro-Israel comments: “We will never abandon Israel, we will never walk away from our commitment to Israel, because our roots are there. Our religion came from Israel, and therefore these radicals will hate us forever.” Woo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o—controversial!
“We feel that a person in his position should not be in that position holding those views,” Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) spokesman Rabiah Ahmed said. People like Ahmed want only Justice Souter types—no paper trail, no opinions, and for God’s sake, no strong, public Christian viewpoints!
CAIR and other politically correct groups want General Boykin to make statements like President Bush’s infamous whopper—Islam is a “religion of peace.”
The Interfaith Alliance (IFA), a “non-partisan” organization claiming 150,000 members from 65 different “faith traditions”, sent a letter to the president asking for a public reprimand of Gen. Boykin. In their letter, IFA said, “Mr. President, this harmful speech must not be allowed to stand and ultimately stain the promise of religious freedom bestowed upon this land by our founding fathers.”
Sorry, the IFA just disqualified themselves by using two phrases in one sentence they do not understand—“religious freedom” and “founding fathers”. They may have been unpleasantly surprised to see how intolerant our founding fathers would have been at the sight of them!
Kudos to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for not bending over at a press conference Thursday, despite reporters’ repeated attempts to get Rumsfeld to condemn Gen. Boykin’s statements.
However, this whole thing’s got me to thinking. The Left’s constant demands for apologies, any time the truth is spoken by someone in power, makes me think I’d better fess up while I’m still a miniscule annoyance to them. I want immunity once I’m big enough for them to care. So here goes…
“I apologize for telling the truth.”
“I apologize for writing the truth.”
“I apologize for thinking the truth.”
“I apologize for hurting the feelings of those on the Left, by telling the truth.”
“I apologize for my efforts to prompt others to think. Because free-thinking leads to truth.”
“I apologize for telling the truth about Leftists, unrepentant homosexuals, tree-huggers, moronic Hollywood actors, yellow journalists (especially the L.A. Times), racists (especially world-class racists like Louis Farrakhan), communists, evil and weak politicians, thug dictators, and particularly—particularly extreme, radical, violent, hateful, 72-Virgins-dreaming, idol-worshipping, fanatical Islamic terrorists. I know how hurtful the truth can be to those who hate it.”
And lastly, “I apologize for this apology, and reluctantly must retract it. For I’ve searched my heart, and realize… it just ain’t sincere!”
