10/18/03 -- Jeb's Emails to FR poster, summer, today, re: Terri. (And, a Message to Michael Shiavo)
10/18/03 | summer's emails with Gov Bush

Posted on 10/18/2003 5:15:50 PM PDT by summer

Note to FR: I am posting here an email conversation I had today with Gov Bush about Terri, and yes, he knows I am posting it here on FR.

In my reply #1, located below this post of Gov Bush’s email, I have posted a message from me to Terri’s husband. And, no, I did not discuss with anyone my idea here to write to Terri’s husband. No one suggested it to me. Nor did I discuss it with anyone at all.

In my next reply, reply #2 below, I hope to post a message to my friends here on FR. And, while I would like to respond to each reply that may be posted on this thread, I can not. Due to a pressing personal matter, I will not be able to respond tonight.

However, my thoughts and prayers and hopes remain with each person involved in this matter.

God bless.

Gov Bush,

Thank you, and I have no doubt you would move Heaven and Earth for her if you could.

Sincerely, [summer]

I cannot offer much hope. I am sickened by this situtation and pray for her family. We have looked at every angle, every legal possibility and will continue to do so. It is clear that we need to make living wills the norm for families in our state. Too few people use them.

Jeb

Thank you for your response, Gov Bush. Before I post this, can you provide any measure of hope for a legal way to preserve this woman's life? To think that all her parents want to do is care for her and not see her starve to death, is, I think, not asking for a lot in this world. My own parents would feel the same way about me, I am sure[…]

Is there a way you can utilize Family Law as it pertains to abandonment of a spouse -- on the grounds of lack of sexual contact -- so that the path can be cleared for him to be legally removed by the state or her family as a husband?

Unfortunately, I cannot issue an executive order when there is a court order upheld at every level in the judiciary. Mr. Shiavo is the legal guardian and I can't override that fact. I wish I could but I have no legal authority to do so.

Can you use your authority to issue an Executive Order, to place her in a different hospice that has no connection to her husband, as a temporary stop measure to [get] this woman back on feeding -- so that you have the time necessary to review whatever other options may exist for you? This current situation with her removed from the tubes will result in an irrevocable situation.

Does someone have a calculator? By 1:45pm Monday, how long will it have been since Terri's last food and water?

It's apparently a planned special session for the matter in the article in the post above.....

The Terri Bill is an add on apparently and needs the 2/3rds approval to be considered....

It probably won't be brought up until the last of the day despite Terri needing every second she can get. I'm very much afraid it will be too late as damage will have begun. I'm not giving up hope, just sadly facing facts. I'm betting this news is not setting well with the monster. If I were her mom, I'd be peeing in my chair rather than leaving him alone with her for one moment.

Of course, you realize that this legislation (if it surfaces for up or down vote) is not actually for Terri though it may bear her name. I'll give you three guesses for whom this is raised

I am confused as to how this works. If the BILL is introduced, and vote taken and passed to be a add on, will the TUBE be able to be re-inserted at that moment??? Or do they have to wait for the entire bill to be passed??....some 3 days later??

Judicially challenged mind here needs help!!

LP poster TLBSHOW, banned from FR, has a thread snearing about Jeb Bush's spending his time sending Freeper summer e-mails rather than (in his opinion)doing something about Terri.

Well, I am clueless here. I thought it had to do with Terri since Gov Bush has been bombarded with communications about this matter.

Judge Greer made at least one big mistake, which will hopefully be his undoing. He has failed to appoint a guardian ad litem as required by law.

I thought she had one at one time but Greer kicked him out. Whatever, here's hoping this miscalculation takes a big bite out of him.

If legislation passes, it will benefit those endangered by the euthanasia movement geared up in Florida. That's one beneficiary. The likelihood of this being passed in time to save Terri from deteriorating is very low and it may not be written as retroactive so it may not even effect her plight. That leaves the CYA scenario for soemone who should have acted to save Terri, then dealt with the political fallout. He had the legal authority to act but chose not too for political reasons, IMHO.

Nope. I believe each (W. and Jeb) converted to his wife's religion.

You're right; I'm getting tired and oversimplfying things. But if any malfeasance were shown in Terri's accounts, Judge Greer could be seriously on the hook, whereas if he'd appointed a "yes man" guardian ad lib, neither he nor the yes man would be on the hook.

Yes, Jeb Bush wrote those responses.

Jeb Bush is one of the few big name politicians who actually reads and responds to his emails. There have been some articles written about this.

I just pray that he gets something done today! That was a good Florida Statute that you have, the problem is that no one is following the law. There are so many things that are obvious in this case and corruption in many of our courts is rampant.

I have seen this personally!
