Why should their hearts be broken?

Because they have no legal standing. A friend of mine is going through this, right now. She's lost everything, and she's bitter.

But the law is the law.

If you don't like it, then I suggest doing what you can to change it. If enough others agree with your opinion, you might get it changed. But for now...? As I said before, it's pretty cut-and-dried.

Nothing in the law says that a criminal has the right to destroy or hide evidence of his guilt. Bill Clinton tried that one. better brush up on your obstruction of justice laws.

Legal standing? Where in the constitution say that constitutional rights are suspended if someone's husband says so. Michael Schiavo has no legal standing to suspend the consitution.
