They are killing this woman in a manner that you would be arrested for if she were an animal. "They" are "murdering" no one. She has been incapable of feeding and watering herself for 13 years now - when does enough finally become enough?

Strela, you appear to be missing the point. Terri is imprisoned because her guardian 'husband' will not allow her to have any of the rehabilitation therapy that was paid in advance to the tune of $750,000 into a trust fund! And you have missed MY point - that it is unfortunate that she did not have a Living Will on file to tell the rest of us what to do if this sort of thing happened to her. If she had that simple little piece of paper and signature on file somewhere, she could have stayed hooked up to a tube for the rest of her life (or until the trust fund ran out) and nobody could have done anything about it.

Can we begin killing them and getting those young, highly useable livers before they die? I have said nothing about harvesting organs, either in this thread or anywhere else. When did you stop beating your wife?

Have you read the autopsy report? Have you?

But it was not an irrelevant question. In this context, it was completely irrelevant.

How do you know she has been incapable? When has she ever been allowed to try?

And you know this to be true, how? I looked it up.
To: SwordofTruth
Watering herself? I certainly have had enough of you! Apparently, the reverse holds true as well. Ta.

How do you know she has been incapable? When has she ever been allowed to try? Again, irrelevant as regards to my point. If she had filled out a Living Will beforehand, none of this mess would have been necessary. And I think you take way too much upon yourself to presume to want to play God with her life.

No it is completely relevant and has everything to do with this case and the many others preceding it.
Because unlike your naive presumption, this killing of Terri has nothing to do with mercy or releasing her, and everything to do with paving the way for further abuse of conscious, alive people with brain damage.
Dehumanization is the trend. Where the trend is leading seems to be toward organ "donation".
And if you spent the time I do reading the medical journals, especially the letters, you would see this as clearly as I do.

Just another worshipper of the god of autonomy Yeah, we can't have people thinking they can make their own decisions about their own lives, now can we?

And I think you take way too much upon yourself to presume to want to play God with her life.Actually you are the one who has consistently made your personal feelings known about her life for the last ten years or so.
I have not said anything except to ask you to elaborate about what should be done in the absence of her clear decision about what she would have wanted.
Now who is playing God? How is it playing God to ask how we should decide what her decision would have been?
You can trust me 150% on this, if you want to be dehydrated to death when your time comes, I will not come and worry one second about you. Nor will I ever try to stop you.
My concern is for those who have not said this is what they wanted, and the choice is being made for them. As well as for the many people who have been forced into death by dehydration even when asking for food and water.

Yeah, we can't have people thinking they can make their own decisions about their own lives, now can we? Yeah, why don't we just legalize assisted suicide, anyway?

"She has been incapable of feeding and watering herself"
WATERING???
This is Felos's line, he's the one who called her a "houseplant", if I'm not mistaken.
GET LOST!!!

Your optimism is admirable, but without the cerebral cortex, this kind of rehabilitation is impossible. It's like expecting an amputated leg to grow back.Since when did what we currently know in medical science become the last advance of its kind? You may think that doctors now know all there is to know about the inner workings of the human brain (and the rest of the body I might add), but I not only could strongly disagree with you, I can point you in the direction of new advances being made as we speak. There are a few doctors who have been kind enough towards brain-damaged people to do further studies with the latest of technology, like PET scans and MRIs, and some doctors are discovering that although some of the cortex looks irreparably damaged that some of the neural fibers are actually looped quite deeply (like the way a carpet is) and it's only the ones on the surface that have been damaged. The others are still functioning although they may be more fragmented. These doctors that I speak of have found that they can coax people out of their so-called vegetative states. The problem is, they've been overlooked, and for a long time we haven't known what "signs" of awareness to look for. My guess is that the Schindlers have cared for their daughter so frequently that they are aware of small changes she makes, when a doctor who visits once in awhile sees nothing. Optimism is appropriate.
