In Virginia Beach they're into jury selection in the capital murder trial of John Muhammad, one of two implicated in the sniper shootings that terrorized the D.C. area south to Richmond a year ago. The trial may last two months. The trial of his alleged young accomplice, Lee Malvo, is set to begin later in nearby Chesapeake.
Muhammad, who has pleaded not guilty, may be found innocent. But circumstantial evidence of his involvement abounds.
In the realm of motive if Muhammad participated in or helped plan the sniper shootings, why? the principal piece of evidence, apparently carrying telltale DNA, is the note left for authorities at the scene of the shooting in Ashland, demanding $10 million. In the sniper case there may have been a parallel motive as well: hostility to the United States and its values generally, and to its white Christian people in particular.
The sniper shootings happened about a year after 9/11. What follows, drawn partly from material appearing in this space last November, is based solely on information contained in newspaper accounts .
Born John Williams, he changed his name to John Muhammad in April, 2001 16 years after his conversion to Islam. He was a member of Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.
(A Times-Dispatch news account cites a Manassas prison guard testifying Malvo and Muhammad "blamed white people for plotting an assassination attempt on Farrakhan. When [the guard] noted that the [sniper] shooting victims were of all races, Malvo said he and Muhammad intentionally selected racially diverse targets . 'He said, "If we only shot white people, the cops would catch up to us quicker, so we shot all kinds of people."'")
A former Washington state friend said Muhammad disparaged Christians and Jews. "In his mind, even black people were no good if they stood with whites or Christians." The friend added it might not be merely coincidental that none of the sniper victims was visibly Muslim.
Muhammad is believed to have shot up a synagogue in Tacoma, Washington. He was connected with the Islamic Center in Laurel, Maryland. Federal authorities have investigated whether he had ties to a sect of militant American Muslims (al-Fuqra) committed to waging holy war against the U.S. and linked (as of a year ago) to 13 killings and 17 firebombings in the U.S. and Canada. Specifically, Muhammad may have had connections to an al-Fuqra commune in Georgia.
(Al-Fuqra "the impoverished," seeking to purify Islam through violence is suspected of having had ties to Richard Reid, the Briton convicted of trying to blow up a Paris-to-Miami jetliner with a shoe-bomb two years ago. Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, on his way through Pakistan to meet al-Fuqra's top sheik, Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani, was kidnapped and beheaded.)

I find if unbelieveable that there was not a visit or some type of interaction/coordination before and during the sniper killings.
Our own CIA knows, I'm sure, but as has been pointed out by Laurie Mylroie and others, there are holdover factions within who seem to work against tying any domestic terror to Muslims of any stripe. Also, they fear having to reveal 'secrets' in court. So there may be known ties, but for these reasons the evidence will remain classified, IMHO.
From the moment he saw the sniper's note, with key phrases like "Call me God" and "Word is Bond", Moose could not fail to have known that he was dealing with a member of "Five Percent Nation of Islam"
Moose knew. I believe he chose to lead the investigation on a wild "white van" chase because he did not want a Black Muslim to be caught as the sniper

I don't know if we would have caught these killers if some good cops hadn't alerted FNC about the description of the real vehicle and drivers. After the vehicle description and killer's description was announced, the brave Truck Driver found their vehicle and blocked it from escaping from the rest area. The state of Maryland's State Troopers didn't want to respond to his pleas for help. Finally they did because it would have been too embarrassing not to have responded.
Keep in mind that there's eight years of Clintinoids there, and Bush hasn't shown any apparent enthusiasm about getting rid of them. They cannot confront the possible firestorm from the PC quarter should they vocalize the possibility that American Black Muslims may be engaged in an alliance with overseas radical Muslim groups for the common purpose of taking down America
As one of my earlier links noted:
Five Percenter theory stands behind the apocalyptic visions of race war expressed in the rap music of some of the more influential hip-hop performers. In Goin Bananas, Da Lench Mob raps: ''We're having thoughts of overthrowing the government . . . it's open season on crackers, you know; the morgue will be full of Caucasian John Does . . . oh my god, Allah, have mercy; I'm killing them devils because they're not worthy to walk the earth with the original black man . . . I won't rest until they're all dead.''See also the much earlier Zebra Killings in California in the 1970s, also by radical Black Muslims. As columnist Nicholas Stix reports:
During the early 1970s until 1974, anywhere from 14 to 270 murders of whites were carried out up and down the California coast by approximately 15 members of the Black Muslims, who are now known as the Nation of Islam. The murders became known as the "Zebra Killings" because police working the case used frequency "Z."Since the Zebra killers were blacks who killed whites, the case is too politically incorrect to merit media attention, even though there were more deaths than the Manson killings
First I remember hearing of this. I wonder what the author's evidence is.
In the mid-1990s, the Muhammads were active in a Nation of Islam temple in Seattle's Central Area; it has since closed. Police sources said Mr. Muhammad was connected with the Islamic Community Center in Laurel, where he may have served as a guard. Muhammad's "adopted son," John Lee Malvo, 17 was also known to have expressed sympathy toward the hijackers.Insight magazine reports similarly
Despite Faraconman's denial, Mass Murderer Muhammad (MMM) provided security for the Million Man March (MMM) in Washington, D.C. in 1995, the same event sniper victim Kenneth Bridges attended and is said to have used as an inspiration in co-founding the MATAH Network, Inc., a black-owned Internet business dedicated to fulfilling a wide array of black consumers' needs. So, if the article's facts are true, we have the DC sniper (a member of Nation of Islam) just by coincidence having as his tenth victim a man who had business dealings of NOI boss Farrakhan. What are the odds of that just being a coincidence? Could it be possible that the Bridges was targeted deliberately, with the viewpoint that he would be treated as just another random sniper slaying, rather than an NoI hit?Bridges, a social activist and father of six from the Philadelphia area, was the eighth person killed and the 10th victim overall in the sniper shootings. He was shot at a Fredericksburg, Viginia gas station October 11, 2002. He was 53 years old.
A graduate of the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Bridges worked with Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1986 to launch a line of health and beauty products for blacks manufactured by People Organized and Working for Economic Rebirth (POWER). The venture was destined to fail as it was just a way of laundering money Farraconman received from Libya. Farrconman took the money, bought a few cases of evil-smelling product and pretended to distribute it. The rest of the money went into his pocket...
