Nobody really knows, but Stalin's "liquidation of the Kulaks" has been estimated to have starved between 6 million to 13 million. God knows how many more he murdered in the Purge Trials, the Gulags and all. But he was "misunderstood," see, and that's good enough for a forgiving fellow like Ed Asner.

Well said. And I am having trouble with "misunderstood." Perhaps Stalin "misunderstood" himself--after all, IIRC, he was pretty explicit about his starving them to death. The Ukraine will never be the same.
