The primarys on Saturday the 21st. Hes promising to endorse on Thursday the 19th at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, which happens to be hosting a presidential debate that same day. Hes timing it for maximum impact, in other words, right down to his choice of which primary to target: As a Georgia native, he might have a bit more sway over voters in SC than he would have had over Iowans, assuming he has any sway left over anyone.
Question: Who would value his endorsement the most? Perrys desperate for positive buzz of any kind but Cains already ruled him and Ron Paul out. Huntsman would kill for some southern cred before the big vote but hes guaranteed to be a longshot in SC. Why waste an endorsement on him if youre Cain? The choice is between Romney, whom he endorsed four years ago, Santorum, and his buddy Newt. If he backs Romney, he gets the thanks of a likely nominee and possible future president for giving him a shot of grassroots appeal before the big vote. If he backs Santorum and Santorum pulls the upset, he gets to say he played conservative kingmaker (rightly or wrongly). Same is true if he backs Newt and Newt ends up edging out Santorum, and Newt would be especially grateful both for Cains vote of confidence and for the loyal friendship. I assume hell end up going with Romney, just because thats his best bet to maximize leverage for his new movement going forward. Exit question: What does he mean by unconventional?
By unconventional, he probably means he’ll endorse an idea or something like that and not any of the specific candidates.
He has said some negative things about all of them - not much, but some - except Newt. Not sure that is a hint though.
“Hes timing it for maximum impact”
I like Cain, but his announcement whenever he makes it will have ZERO impact.
This needs to be made clear - Santorum endorsed Romney in 2008 too.
Seems kinda late for an endorsement for SC.
The DeMint endorsement is the big one, will see what he does.
Exactly. He's already given a strong hint of just what type of movement he is going to launch on the Hannity show.
Maybe he’ll endorse Buddy Roemer.
I really wish Cain wouldn’t drag this out into petty dramatics. Why not just make an endorsement and move on? He should’ve done this a month+ ago.
I think he might try to endorse himself.
Endorsements, really, are meaningless. It's all about ego.
DeMint endorsed Romney in 2008, too. Were you aware of that?
Some of the comments seem to imply he’ll endorse Sarah Palin.
I think he might try to endorse himself.
I was thinking he would endorse 9-9-9.
.
It will be Urkel. The mole comes full circle.
I just watched the entire video interview, and I’m even more convinced now that he will NOT endorse any candidate. Which is a tease that will backfire on him I think.
And FTR, his “brilliant” interviewers never even had the notion cross their minds that he was playing them. Sheesh.

Maybe he’s going to endorse himself? That WOULD be unconventional ....
I think you could be correct about that.
Wouldn’t that be fun!
Himself? Lol.
I think Newt.
