It doesn't matter if the repair will be so lengthy that the driver will obviously be out of contention. The driver earns points if they can finish the race. The car must be able to maintain the pace, though. Sheet metal damage can so impair aero that, far from being competitive, the car is a liability out there on the track. Nascar will black flag one of these rolling speed bumps.

Joe went from 39th to 24th since the first pit. Fixed his front end I guess.

That's a good reason -- I like Jeff Gordon (who can be put into the "whiner" category -- but he's cute too -- so it balances out) because we were in his pit for a race and his crew was really nice (and funny too) -- they let me have an "official" pair of earphones and I could listen to the race chatter on different channels but they told me I would be in BIG trouble if I keyed the mike, I was so freaked out the whole time that I'd hit the button -- this was before Dale Sr. was killed, and you could tell him on the radio right away -- he liked to use 'colorful metaphors' (AKA cuss words)
