various links and websites

At the request of members, I am restarting those "Tales from the Dark UnderBelly Of the Beast"-- the stories and issues that the press and media either ignore, won't even talk about, or will mention once and forevermore claim "it's old news..."
Naturally, some will be stories which interest me, or things I think we all need to be aware of.
I am experimenting with a minor change in presentation- when I can, I will cut to
-GoogleNewsBeta--
with a keyword or two and see what kind of links to "mainstream" stories I can find in contrast to what we see here and on other sites.
May I remind you of a couple of points to bear in mind?
Each link usually has many other links within- follow them all to get "the rest of the story."
Don't forget the "open multiple browsers" trick with control-n -- this allows you to hold your place with one, and use the others to follow links, run searches, etc.
Rather than go back and rehash old links, I'll give you links to the original posts here:
-DUBOB 10- the *best of* the Dark Underbelly Series--
-DUBOB 9-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast..... --
DUBOB 8-- still *more* tales from the Underbelly***
DUBOB 7-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB 6-- yet *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB 5-- even *more* tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast.....
DUBOB IV- yet more Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast-
DUBOB III -- "Tales from the Dark Underbelly of the Beast"
DUBOB 2-- more tales from The Dark Underbelly of the Beast-- thread II
-The Dark Underbelly of the Beast- Stories the Media won't Discuss...--

That's my take on it, too-- from 1983 until 2002, I held a FFL with an NFA endorsement- dropped it because of the expense, liability, and hassle.
There was a great, largely internal debate among the firearms industry whether "kitchen table dealers" actually hurt or helped more mainstream stores.
After most were driven out of business ( and no, I was not one of them- had a standalone building ) some groups conceeded that this move really hurt everyone, overall- but it was too late to correct it.
Here's one group that tried to save the kitchen table dealers:

Conservatives and libertarians keep making the same mistake again and again: they rely on facts, common sense and assume the resulting sense of shame or outrage will thwart the democrats. Fat chance.

It's said that journalism is the first draft of history. If so, the Internet sometimes affords us a glimpse at history's rough outline. At 8:38 a.m. EST yesterday, a reader of the Free Republic Web site started a discussion thread for shuttle enthusiasts:

They aren't mad because their message isn't being heard. They are mad because ours IS.
Liberals just cannot get their message across to Americans.
Except on CNN, NBC,CBS, MSNBC, the entire TV industry, most major newspapers, the movie industry, the school system, etc. etc. etc. How sad for them...
So Nelson Mandela doesn't want America to win the war on terrorism. No surprise there. He didn't want America to win the Cold War either...

My new name for the press is "disaster vampires". They are sickening the way they try to steal the show, sell more soap, and keep you glued to the tube when they have nothing to say. That's also when they are at their stupidest. They are trying so hard to keep everyone's attention. They are so against Bush and yet...
The 1990's Bubble Economy That Went Bust was presided over by none other than the conniving Clintons, and No-Controlling-Legal-Authority Gore, who rode the Nation into the ground on the wreck of their corrupt political ambitions.
This is a classic case of the Hegelian Dialectic at work. Problem, reaction, solution. The gov't creates (through action or inaction) a problem, manipulates the public reaction, and finally proposes a solution which involves more government and higher taxes. Not only this, but their "solution" leads to another "problem", starting the cycle again.

The so-called "war on terrorism" is really a war of civilization vs. barbarism. The war thrust upon us by Islamo-fascists is a war against science, rationality and knowledge, and in favor of theocratic ignorance.

"I'm not comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler - because George Bush, for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler. And secondly George Bush has much more power than Adolf Hitler ever had."
The stupidity of some people is just amazing. I wish that everyone one of these Hollywood idiots could be forced to live a year in Hitler's Germany or Castro's Cuba.
Chilling Effects-
For real insight into what kids in the PC age are up against, I highly recommend Anne Hendershott's The Politics of Deviance
There's no way that Bush can dump the UN now. It would cost him too much. But if more people started writing articles like this one, public opinion could turn.

After news broke that the State Department was brokering a deal to give up to $345 billion—or more—in Social Security benefits to illegal aliens from Mexico (through what’s known as a “Totalization Agreement”), Consular Affairs (CA) chief Maura Harty was furious. Not that the my story was inaccurate—it wasn’t—but that such sensitive details of the agreement made their way into public view.
One thing is clear: the gun grabbers believe the Besiliedes fiasco hurt them badly...and they will do ANYTHING to try to regain the intiative.
For me, the most annoying aspect of this is that this phoney claim was made and debunked during the course of a couple of weeks early January, all on mail lists and the blogosphere.

I wonder who the picture-puller is? Whoever it is, they (1) know that guns were banned in Rwanda (2) know that a massacre resulted in the deaths of nearly a million Rwandans, and yet (3) still oppose JPFO for supporting firearms ownership. One can only conclude this organization supported that massacre, or supports massacres in general.
