SAN DIEGO (AP) -- An animal rights group has asked the San Diego Padres to back out of a deal giving the Petco retail firm naming rights to the team's new downtown ballpark.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is leading a boycott against the San Diego-based pet-supply chain, alleging animal cruelty at some of its stores. The group contends a high number of animals have died from disease and crowding at Petco stores.

I wonder if they will sell hotdogs at the new ballpark.

PETA's underlying motivation in attacking Petco, Myers said, is that it "doesn't believe people should have pets."We have a winner!

If they came picketing my business, I would turn loose some attack dogs on them.

Of course...and sushi, tacos, chicken, buffalo, and cow too!
The big thing on radio in SD this week is (well, besides the Super Bowl) the nicknames that the locals will use for the park. We already have:
Animal Farm
Bark Park
Petco Pound
Paw-dres Pound
And the promotions may include
Petco Pup of the Day
Win a free Pooper-Scooper
Free Spaying or Neutering of your pet
Any other suggestions???

Didn't San Francisco pass a law that changed pet owners into "pet caretakers" or some such nonsense? They changed the status to "guardians". LA actually did this last year or so and then swicthed it back for free of frivolous lawsuits.
Coming from an area(Bay area) which is using public schools as anti-war indoctrination centers, has a city resolutions condemning any military action on Iraq, allowed pro-Pali thugs to attack Israeli supporters and generally accepts an lefty idea as necessary and implements it...one really shouldn't be surprised.

Maybe PETA could sponsor "Wok Your Dog to the Stadium" Night
Ducking for cover...(it's only a joke)

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is leading a boycott against the San Diego-based pet-supply chain, alleging animal cruelty at some of its stores. I didn't think PetCo sold animals other than fish. I thought they were purely a supply outfit.

Why, owning a pet is tantamount to
slavery--didn't you know that?

I'm a member of P.E.T.A.(People for the Eating of Tasty Animals). And I like my steaks well done. Personally, I can't stand the naming of arenas for coporate entities. Pro Player Stadium will always be Joe Robbie Stadium, 3Com park will always be Candlestick Park, etc. I'm just glad that Rebok has the rights to uniforms in the NFL. I shudder to think how long it would take Jerry Jones to slap the swoosh on the roof of Texas Stadium. Since the City of Irving owns it, that may have prevented that. So, go ahead and name it Petco Field or whatever. If it pi$$e$ off PETA, so be it. Will this PC BS ever stop?
