One of the requirements for the 9/11 patch the girls were earning was to share something patriotic with someone in the city. The girls had made pins to share that had pictures of the flag, or God Bless America printed on them. Clare had also made an origami crane, so she gave that to a fireman, too. He let her climb up into the cab and put the crane on the dashboard; then the fireman showed her how and let her start the truck! We had brought them several boxes of Girl Scout cookies, and when we left, they were headed back to make a fresh pot of coffee to have with them!
I didn't know until later in the day that they sold patches for their station. It is at the corner of 48th St. and 8th Ave, which is still considered 'Broadway', so their motto is "Never Missed a Performance", and they have the tragedy and comedy masks above the motto. Since several of us missed the chance to get the patches, one of the ladies, whose brother works nearby is going to get them for us and send them to the girls to put on their vests.
I got some pictures of Frodo at the station.
