Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I don't give out the hearts, but I still give out those little grade school valentines and then I add candy. I think they are so fun. I just got done delivering them to some co-workers as a matter of fact :-D

Jonathan Alter, in an editorial this week, was still spouting that Bush is a hot headed cowboy, and Colin Powell is an even-minded calming influence. And this was in a column where even Alter admitted that Colin Powell had convinced him that Iraq was a direct danger to not only his neighbors, but to us through terrorist networks.

Clarence Page had an op-ed piece that said almost the same thing. "It's good that we have a president that is worthy of Colin Powell". They must be on the same fax distribution list.

The interesting thing is that all of these "great" newspapers and TV networks exist to form and reinforce the opinion of about 1000 "movers and shakers" in NYC, DC, and Hollywood. They could care less what the other millions who read and hear the stuff think, although agreement is always preferred. That's because that thousand will then be churning out what the other 279 million of us are supposed to think.

All of this is done because, to them, Washington DC is the center of the universe, and nothing else matters except getting, maintaining, and influencing power there. They're all little Saruman-wannabes. Hobbits and men mean little to them except as tools to be manipullated.
