There was quite a display at the fire department in our town this morning. I caught sight of it as I drove by to deliver my mail route. All three bay doors were open and three of the company's rigs were perfectly polished to gleaming and standing in the yard. The flag stood at half-staff and a crowd had gathered. A single fireman stood at attention in front of all of this, impecably dressed, solemn-faced. I couldn't help myself: I saluted as I drove slowly by, with tears streaming down my face.

When I went out today I was wearing a shirt a friend of mine who is NYPD sent me in December.

It is the Official of the NYPD/FDNY T-shirt

It's hard to describe - but it's a cop and a fireman standing as the New Twin Towers of NYC (look at the last pic on my profile page I'm wearing it)

I was so upset this morning - I had the only Flag flying in my neighborhood.

We always flew the flag on "days" and had put our flag out election day 2000 - with those problems it didn't come down and because we noticed no one else with flags we decided to keep it up every day.

So, other than when it was replaced, the flag has been flying in front of my house 24/7 since Election day 2000
