I bought the Amber "prequel" book by John Gregory Betancourt ("Dawn of Amber") but I haven't read it yet.

It wasn't bad... call it "Amber Lite" and you've got a pretty good description. Young Oberon's fairly cool, though. Lot of it is very derivative, naturally.
