I haven't gotten to that stage yet with my eldest (she's 5), so I have no idea what to do.

If dad is around have him do it. Here's what I would do:

Grab tooth with Kleenex right up by the gums. Say, "Okay honey, I am going to pull on the count of three." One......Two (yank!)....Three!

Worked like a charm.

Ugh! I accidently cut my youngest's finger when clipping her nails (she's 3 months old). The blood and her screams had me seeing stars, but I kept it together long enough to get her to the doctor and then to the emergency room. All she needed was a big gauze bandage.

I will never use clippers on her again! All the nurses told me to use a soft nail file. That's what I will use from now on.

I should have known better from the start, but I had clipped them several times already with no incident and felt sure nothing would happen. Until she learned how to yank her arm back, that is.
