This book is an absolutely delightful read. It is at once wonderfully entertaining and incredibly informative about the life of one of America's founding personalities. Few men contributed as much to the success of the American Revolution as Lafayette, and yet we scarcely remember him at all. Author Nikos Vlachos brings Lafayette to vibrant, compelling life in an extremely relatable, enjoyable way. The book is at the same time a very well-written micro-biography of this important historical figure. Nobleman, general, revolutionary, hero, leader, patriot, thinker, idealist, Freemason, husband, father and man; all of these titles apply to Lafayette, and each gets a scene in this compelling tale. If you are interested in history, love America, enjoy a good story, fear for the present state of our Republic and hope for a brighter future for our country, this is the book for you. Is is, quite simply, superb. Vive le nom de Lafayette!

I spent a night with the French Army on a base outside of Lyon, France (I think it was Lyon), and they were showing me the paintings on their mess hall walls of their unit landing in America during the revolution, but I couldn’t make out their French and I don’t know which unit it was, but they were very proud of it.

It is very enjoyable fiction, but contains a wealth of accurate biography and thoughtful philosophy.

Two of my ancestors and a first cousin independently entertained Lafayette during one of his visits back to the US. The man must not have spent a cent during his travels, he was so popular. The story passed down from my grandmother was that the family still had the wine glasses Lafayette had drunk from but no one knew which particular glass had been his.
