GLP-1 medications for weight loss and diabetes appear to slow the body’s aging processes, a sign that the blockbuster drugs could ultimately help people live longer.
The idea that these medications may extend lifespan isn’t exactly far-fetched; it’s more of an extension of what they’ve already been shown to do. Studies have found that along with helping people shed fat and control blood sugar, GLP-1 drugs improve the health of many different parts of the body, lowering the risk of heart, kidney and liver disease, for example, and reducing sleep apnea and inflammation, which contribute to loss of health and function as people age.
“Aging is the biggest riskfactor for many diseases, and if we can target aging itself, we might be able to treat all kinds of diseases that are associated with aging,” said Dr. Danica Chen, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley who studies calorie restriction and aging.
Now, scientists have turned their attention to biological markers of aging to better understand exactly how GLP-1 drugs may affect the aging process.
The new research conducted in mice and people is early, and scientists say they don’t know whether the benefits apply only to people who are overweight or have diabetes when they start taking them medications, or if they could also slow aging in people who are normal weight and otherwise healthy.
For that reason, experts say it’s too early for people to use this medication solely in the hopes of living longer.
“There are people who are biohacking and taking these agents who are not either diabetic or obese, and the question there is what happens in lean younger non-diabetic individuals, especially over the long term,” said Dr. James Kirkland, who directs the Center for Advanced Gerotherapeutics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

So why does it make people look like death?
For the most part they dont look deathy. At the least the normies. Its the hollyweirdos who take it until emaciation, or already thin entertainers with an obsession.
Common Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain are the most frequent adverse reactions.
Patients may also experience constipation, fatigue, headache, and injection site reactions.
Rapid weight loss can lead to hair loss and facial changes, often referred to as "Ozempic face."
Serious Risks and Warnings:
Thyroid Tumors: The FDA has issued a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors, including cancer, based on rodent studies.
Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas can cause severe, persistent abdominal pain and may require hospitalization.
Gallbladder Disease: Users face an increased risk of gallstones and other gallbladder issues.
Kidney Injury: Severe dehydration from vomiting or diarrhea can lead to acute kidney damage.
Vision Changes: Worsening of diabetic retinopathy and other vision problems have been reported.
Gastroparesis: Delayed stomach emptying can result in stomach paralysis or intestinal blockage.
Eating Disorders: Off-label use for weight loss may trigger or exacerbate conditions like anorexia or bulimia.
Long-Term and Other Concerns:
Rebound Weight Gain: Discontinuing the medication often leads to regaining lost weight if lifestyle changes are not maintained.
Surgical Risks: Slowed digestion increases the risk of aspiration during general anesthesia.
Counterfeit Drugs: Unapproved or compounded versions pose additional dangers due to unknown ingredients and dosing errors.
GLP-1 drugs are a huge breakthrough in medication.
There are a lot of applications where GLP-1 drugs have very beneficial effects either as primary or secondary cause
The dosages people are using for weight loss are typically much higher than the low level therapeutic dosage for other applications.
Depends how you define anti-aging...
So if they don’t kill you — you live longer.
Aside from anything else, a way to significantly increase your lifespan is to shed the pounds. That right there reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, etc.
I was a thin guy all my life. Then about 12 years ago I quit smoking and my weight suddenly ballooned up about 60-70 pounds. I started taking a GLP-1 about seven weeks ago and have dropped 25-30 pounds and 2 inches around the waist - without really feeling hungry. Yes, I have a ways to go but am making good progress. These things definitely do work.
It takes the fat that is normal, just underneath the skin, from the face and you begin to look emaciated...........
Fighting obesity and diabetes by any means can result in a longer life.
Do these drugs have any other effect on aging? That remans to be proven.
When you lose a lot of weight it takes time for skin to adjust.
Gotta get these drugs sold, somehow! The look on all of the patient’s faces is probably scaring people away from these drugs.
There’s a LOT of people waiting for their payoffs.
Well duh...losing excess weight is anti-
Aging
Well duh...losing excess weight is anti-
Aging
Sales dropping off, eh?
Do you have a link for that? TYIA
Then why does it make me feel twenty years older and a hundred pounds heavier?
