China has already everything to produce its own semiconductor and it has been doing it for years to serve the massive consumer market. It can market 20 cents 32 bit RISC microcontrollers to kill all competitors. Even at the higher end, the Chinese have foundries that can produce “indigenous” (ie blundered from Western and Japanese licenses) 10 nm class transistors wafers, qualified as advanced semiconductor some moons ago.

The biggest producer of GaN, a strategic power semiconductor that is becoming a must for anything power supplies, is now Chinese. Not a trivial dominance.

Which makes me very suspect of anyone especially politicians who advocating for the slowing or stopping of AI development, without AI development here n the US we might as well cede AI dominance to China because we would effectively surrender

For all practical purposes, Taiwan is China, with all the CCP moles embedded there.
