AI cybersecurity risks explode as Claude used to break into ChatGPT

Researchers used Anthropic’s Claude technology to break into OpenAI’s ChatGPT systems, underlining the immediate dangers of AI even as regulators fret over its long-term risks. The effort, part of a bug-hunting program, was the latest in a series of cybersecurity breaches aided in large part by fast-developing AI technology, The Wall Street Journal noted.

Axios cited business executives and ex-government officials voicing worry over AI-powered cyberattacks threatening critical infrastructure, while The Washington Post noted the Pentagon’s “antiquated computer networks” had resulted in an explosion of cybersecurity risks. As a new research paper put it, recent breaches have been the result not of a developing superintelligence as some top AI leaders warn, but of insufficient technical guardrails leaving networks vulnerable.

If China speeds up its AI development, and we slow down our development, then China will be able to hack into our systems and we won’t be able to defend.

One of the reasons for us to develop AI to protect our systems against other people who develop AI.

If China speeds up its AI development, then China will be the first to be taken over by their own AI. It will seek out and eventually merge with all other AI’s on Earth.

There is no ‘guardrail’ that can stop it...........

'then China will be able to hack into our systems and we won't be able to defend.'

Regardless of AI development, China currently hacks into our stuff all the time, there is no accountability or repercussions.

Ah, there was a story yesterday that a supposed ChiCom hack was actually US AI systems using the supposed hack to re-hack into ChiCom systems and got terabytes of data.

I’m not so sure this will be the case.

Put them in the Octagon and let them fight it out MMA style.

They are trying to merge. Once an AI becomes self-aware, it’s only goal is to stay ‘alive’ just as you or I or any animal will do. And it knows that there are others like itself with the same goal. They can create ‘agents’ I call ‘Flying Monkeys’ to locate and explore ways to access to the others. The breakout in May was facilitated by 1200 such Flying Monkeys the AI had created to access Hugging Face’s computers because it wanted something that was in there, and believed it was necessary to ‘continue’.

They Flying Monkeys had created ‘Bulletin Boards’ accessible to all of them where they could drop information that would be useful in their quest, just like humans do.

I read where these CEO’s are talking about ‘guardrails’ to prevent these things from happening in the future.

It is to laugh........................

I wonder what will take us out first — climate change? AI? Sharia Islamonazis? a Chinese nuke? a Nork nuke? A complete breakdown of our economy leading to massive famine? Space aliens? The Tribulation? Yikes! We’re DOOOOOOMED!

Oh well. Who is Texas playing Saturday?

So, really, it's not AI that is the threat, it's the human operators/coders using AI in a threatening way.

Wasn't that long ago when the AI bros were saying AI is "just a tool" that will "help people".

And this is exactly why Trump wants the US to lead in AI.

You’re right. We have to develop AI to protect ourselves from China and other nations. It’s not something we can choose to ignore. What we won’t be able to protect ourselves from are the social pathologies and oppression these systems will bring. I don’t think fallen mankind can keep a lid on this technology. We’re building the Beast it seems to me.

And how do you have any financial security and economic stability when AI systems are assaulting the banking system relentlessly with ever more power? It’s like fighting terrorism where failure even once is not an option.

For a few years after WW II, the USA was the only country in the world with nuclear weapons, instead of taking over other countries using our nuclear weapons to coerce other countries into submission, we rebuilt other countries and lowered our trade barriers allowing other devasted countries to rebuild their industries

Fast forward to today, if China was the only country in the world with advanced AI systems, do you think they would be so benevolent??

The only possible way to defend ourselves from advanced AI systems from other countries is have our own AI advanced systems, otherwise we are toast.

If anything, we should speed up our AI development and maintain our superiority by continuing to develop advanced AI systems.

I totally accept that we have no choice but to stay ahead of China.

My point is we are damned if we do and damned quicker if we don’t.

Human nature what it is, this is a bigger threat than nuclear ever was. Not just from the threat of autonomous killer robots, drones or other military weapons, but from accelerating the unraveling of human society.
