U.S. — According to a new study conducted by the Barna Group, a majority of Christians were likely to replace the Holy Spirit with ChatGPT by the year 2028.

Polling data showed an increasing interest among Christians in "taking control of their faith" by putting it in the hands of AI models they can directly interact with, thereby replacing what they mostly consider to be the vague proddings of the Spirit.

"I don't really understand the Holy Spirit, but if I ask ChatGPT for a good place to eat, it gives me several great recommendations," said one gentleman interviewed by researchers. "I just think that's really comforting. Imagine what it can do for me spiritually — probably recommend a lot of great spiritual food to eat, I guess."

Pastors were reportedly concerned and had reportedly begun using ChatGPT for guidance on the matter.

Of those polled, approximately 78% of Christians use ChatGPT to research Bible passages, 83% have asked it to explain the Trinity, and a whopping 98% asked it if talking to digital anime avatars was sin. Only 3% asked A.I. into their heart, but that number was expected to grow if trends continue.

I know this is a parody article (gotta love the Bee!). In this case it's veering very close to being prophetic. I hope that our brethren in Christ do not fall into the trap of trusting AI with things that are best left between the believer and his or her relationship with God.

As it is right now, chatbots are becoming an eerie parallel to the "virtual confession booth" that was shown in George Lucas's first movie THX 1138.

Jokes aside, AI is great tool for bible studies. It is like a concordance on steroids. I use it to locate underlying Greek, commentaries on verses, references to other related passages etc. It saves a lot of time and compared to other options and cost of library extremely cheap.

Acts 2 describes the Holy Spirit giving the early disciples the ability to speak in other languages.

And AI is based on Large Language Models...so... /sarc

God likes AI as much as He does golden calves.

Classical Christianity can be so difficult with unending paradoxes and so many issues that you have to take on faith. I can see defaulting to AI, when you want some clear idea for a direction to take in life. I thank God for all the correct choices I stumbled across before I was saved and could pray for wrong outcomes.
