Fact Check: Grindr Outage Did NOT Take Place in Dallas During 2026 Republican National Convention

Did a real Grindr outage take place in Dallas during the 2026 Republican National Convention, which began on Sept. 9, 2026? No, that's not true: A spokesperson for Grindr told Lead Stories it had no outages connected to the convention, and its status page did not show any either. The Downdetector website did show an increase in outage reports nationally on the evening of Sept. 9, 2026, but according to its methodology, the graphs on the service are at least partially based on unvetted user reports and social media posts.

The claim appeared in a post by the @factpostnews account on X on Sept. 9, 2026. It read:

"Grindr outage reports are surging in Dallas on Day 1 of the Republican midterm convention"

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

According to the page on their website that explains their methodology, they rely on the following information to determine if there is a problem with a service:

"A small number of reports does not necessarily indicate a significant issue. To make sure that incidents are correctly represented, Downdetector calculates a baseline volume of typical problem reports for each service monitored, based on the average number of reports for that given time of day, measured over the last six months. Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the baseline.

To maintain the quality and integrity of our data, we limit how often repeated reports from the same user are included in the public report totals for a company. We still collect any additional reports you submit, and they may be used for further analysis, even if they do not increase the displayed total."

Basically, during the Republican convention, gay activists were making fake reports about a Dallas outages.

The funny part is that somehow, liberals can laud queers as being the very best of humanity, and then turn right around and use “gay” as a pejorative when speaking of people on the right. The premise of the original screed was to infer that so many republicans were hitting the queer hook-up site that it crashed. Of course it wasn’t true.
