Automatic Collision Evasion Tesla Automatic Collision Evasion feature in update 2026.27.5 Available in the US HW4 Models: S? 3 X? Y CT
Automatic Collision Evasion activates Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to try to keep your vehicle safe and then continue driving. It can engage in the following situations while you are driving manually:
- Scenario 1: A frontal collision is imminent and braking alone may not avoid it.
- Scenario 2: Your vehicle detects that you are not sufficiently attentive to the road (for example, reaching toward the back seat), or that Full Self-Driving (Supervised) may have been unintentionally disengaged.

The car has eight external high resolution cameras, and can literally see things that you can't. And, its reaction time is superhuman. My car received the update this morning, and I don't have a problem with it. While under FSD mode, our car has literally avoided two fatal high-speed crashes that we never saw coming. So, as far as I'm concerned, the car is batting a thousand and we are still alive and safe.
They will definitely have to turn this off to do the Standard Safety Crash Tests. The car would refuse to do the head-on crash test, and try to get out of the way of the side and rear-end crash tests.
It is quite impressive. We have been driving a Y for about 4 months with FSD. I still like to drive the car, but my wife is completely hooked on FSD and has had some interesting situations where lane changers were heading toward her; the car sensed it and moved over at a speed she couldn’t have matched, even if she’d known about the threat. The only situations it couldn’t process were dynamic road construction zones where a construction barrel blew over and rolled across traffic lanes. No biggie.
I would like to see some videos of the tesla refusing to crash
I don’t drive my Tesla 90% of the time (it keeps these stats) — highway or side streets. FSD is amazing.
How DO you test this stuff? Put the Tesla in a room full of cats and tell it to drive from A to B?
A few months back, I was walking on a country road, left side, on the shoulder. No sidewalks. It was a connector between country trails and town sidewalks. The shoulder was narrow. A car was coming toward me in its lane. I thought he was too close to me, so I put my right arm out to indicate he should give me more clearance.
The car instantly swung away from me a few feet toward its left (toward the center of the road). It reacted far faster than any human could have. It was amazing to see from a pedestrian viewpoint.
It might be better than women, but that bar is low ;/
