60 years ago, NBC aired the first episode of Star Trek, a television show that became a pop culture phenomenon. The original series starred William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, who led his diverse crew of humans and at least one alien, on adventures in space.
"Space: The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise," Kirk says, narrating in the title sequence of each episode. "Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before."

The Star Trek that I’ve watched most of my life wasn’t as gay as the above, as it ends:
“To boldly go where no MAN has gone before.”
Although everywhere they went, they encountered people. But I'm just picking. It's a great show, and my dad and I are watching it after dinner these days. We're on Season 3. The Klingons sure have changed over the years!

Sorry youngsters but the original is the only worthwhile iteration.
Rodenberry came from a generation that still knew history and he was influenced by the great explorer Captain Cook. That’s why his hero has the alliteration...Captain Cook, Captain Kirk. Cook also famously said “I want to go further than any man has ever gone”.
Long-time Star Trek fan here. I loved the original series, and although it took me a couple of seasons to warm up to The Next Generation, I eventually came to love it as well. Deep Space Nine was also strong, but most after that have lost a bit of what made the original concept so fascinating. (Woke agendas always ruin shows/movies.) Strange New Worlds has been fun, though, and I’m always excited to see what comes next in the Star Trek world. Live long and prosper, Star Trek.
I liked the JJ abrams Star trek movies when I first watched them, but then realized later that they were typical JJ - flash and bang but eminently forgettable and definitely not star trek.
The JJ Abrmas movies traded thought-provoking diplomacy, science, and ethical dilemmas for generic sci-fi action, explosions, and frenetic pacing.
There was also his sloppy plotting—such as instantaneous “transwarp beaming” across galaxies or characters watching planets implode from nearby star systems—which ignored the established Star Trek (or even actual physcial) scale of space travel.
At least he didn’t put his trademark “mystery box” (Lost, DisneyWars etc) - so that’s there.
